| The Governing Board approves the participation of the City Council in the H2020-HOOP project with a budget of 117,000 euros financed entirely by the Commission European | The Governing Board today approved the participation of the Murcia City Council in the H2020-HOOP project, which will help European cities to eliminate legislative, technical and economic barriers for the effective implementation of circular bioeconomy initiatives at the municipal level. For this, in each city, there will be a 'hoop' committee, made up of local experts and project partners, which will promote the reintroduction of these products, derived from the treatment of water and urban organic waste, again in the Murcian economy and society.Specifically, Murcia will participate as a 'lighthouse' city - leading cities that show the way to others - in this project due to its proven experience in Circular Economy, because it is a pioneer municipality in the drafting of this strategy, as well as its participation in other European projects on this topic: Valuewaste, Cityloops and Enrich.
Currently, the council has signed letters of interest from more than 58 cities interested in the project. The project has nine million euros, of which eight are funded by the European Commission.
Specifically, the Murcia City Council has a budget of 117,000, financed entirely by the European Commission, and with an execution period of four years.
This initiative involves reinforcing and validating at the European level the steps initiated by the council in the preparation of the Municipal Circular Economy Strategy.
A total of 23 partners participate in the project, with eight clusters of European cities, such as Murcia (Spain), Bergen (Norway), Kuopio (Finland), Almere (Netherlands), Albano-Lazio (Italy), Porto ( Potugal), Clube (Greece) and Münster (Germany).HOOP will be the continuation of Valuewaste and represents the union with two other European projects of the same line, Scalibur and WaystUp! All of this implies the creation of a European consortium of cities and entities working in the field of circular economy.Once the different projects for obtaining bioproducts that are currently being carried out in the city have been completed, HOOP, through a commission of experts, will advise Murcia on taking another step on this path. The project will also be a great opportunity for many companies in the biotechnology sector to offer their know-how for the implementation of pilot projects in the cities involved, which will promote the generation of wealth and employment in the sector.
