Murcians deposit more than 187,000 kilos of special household waste in ecopoints during the first seven months of the year (27/08/2020)

| These facilities receive an average of 1,650 visits per week | Visits to ecopoints and ecoparks after the state of alarm, although the collection data is lower this year: From January to July 2019, 263,833.93 kilos of special household waste were collected, while this year, they are 187,978.42 kilos of this waste.The vegetable oil deposit has increased, collecting 32,618.30 liters of this material from January to July of this year, compared to 31,796 liters in 2019, in the same period.The collection of batteries has decreased being in this period of 2019 of 6,424 kilos, and of 2020 of 5,829 kilos, as well as the office automation products: In 2019, from January to July, it was 23,389 kilos, and in 2020, 18,154 kilos.A contribution on the riseDuring 2015, 264,411 kg of special waste were collected, in 2016 it was 334,593 kg while in 2017, 453,000 kg.

Last 2018, the figure amounted to 585,793 kg, reaching 624,567 kg in 2019, a growth of 6.62% compared to 2018.Citizen awareness has achieved that the special waste that is collected has gone from 264,411 kilos in 2015 to 624,567 in 2019, which means an increase of 136%.Visits growthVisits to ecoparks and ecopoints have been on the rise, which confirms the degree of greater awareness among citizens. Thus, the visits to the Ecopark, after the end of the confinement, were an average of 36 visits per day, which continue this past July, when the facility has a morning schedule, from 8:00 a.m.

to 2:00 p.m.

.The mobile ecopoints also continue the same trend.

The mobile ecopoints ceased their activity on March 16, returning to reopening on May 11.

In the first week they had an average of views of 1,734 users, when the average in a normal week is 1,284.Since then, visits have increased, reaching an average of 1,650 visits last June and July, with Fama, La Flota and Santa María de Gracia being the most visited ecopoints, with a daily average of visits each of 45 users.The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, highlighted "the sensitivity of the citizens who have come to deposit the waste that they require at these facilities, without depositing them in the wrong places, aware of the negative effects that this behavior would have had harmful to the environment.

In this facility, waste from shops, offices, industries or other professional activities is not allowed since these have their authorized managers understanding their own environmental legislation.The non-admitted waste is household waste, unsorted waste, industrial, agricultural or livestock waste, toxic and dangerous waste, mining or radioactive waste, clinical waste (syringes, medicines, etc.), Tires, Fiberglass or Asbestos.The Murcia municipality Ecopark has 6 mobile ecopoints, large vehicles with different compartments for each type of waste, to serve and facilitate citizens who need to dispose of special smaller volume waste without the need to travel to the Ecopark, having thus a close and accessible facility.These Ecopoints run through the neighborhoods of Murcia and its districts from Monday to Saturday in the morning and afternoon.In addition, large appliances, pruning remains and debris are deposited only in the Ecopark.These ecopoints are aimed at the collection of special waste such as vegetable and mineral oil, clothing and footwear, alkaline, salt and button batteries, batteries, toner and ink cartridges for printers, fluorescent lamps and energy saving light bulbs, X-rays, paints, solvents and containers with remains of this waste, among others.
