| José Ballesta: "This is a measure that also has a historical component, since at the beginning of the 20th century different streets of the city already had these awnings "| The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, along with the councilor for Urban Development and Administration Modernization, José Guillén, and the councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, supervised this week the installation of the awnings that have been installed for the first time in the San Antolín neighborhood, on Calle del Pilar, which protect pedestrians from the sun and create more shady spaces, minimizing the effects of high temperatures."This action is framed within the Shadow Plan, with which we continue to work to improve the quality of life of our neighbors, mitigating the effects of the heat and providing our neighborhoods with more shady spaces," said José Ballesta, who recalled that " it is a measure that also has a historical component, since at the beginning of the 20th century different streets in the city already had these awnings ”.The entoldamiento and shading system has also been enabled in different streets of the old town, such as Platería and Trapería, in San Cristóbal street and Joufré, Puxmarina and Esteve Mora squares; initiative promoted by the Department of Urban Development and Administration Modernization.Specifically, microperforated canvas awnings have been installed, which guarantees their durability, easy maintenance and fire resistance; using two 18-meter lifting machines.More than 160 awnings per municipalityThe City Council works on the installation of more than 160 new tents and shading systems throughout the municipality, of which 50 of them are already a reality - they are distributed in parks and gardens so that families can enjoy these new spaces in any time of the year-.It should be remembered that the Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration is carrying out intense work to cover and shade spaces that are widely used by Murcia, such as playgrounds and parks and gardens.The objective is to create more shady spaces, protecting residents from inclement sunlight in the neighborhoods and districts, and facilitating the enjoyment of the little ones, neighborhood participation and sociocultural gatherings.

This measure also increases the number of effective hours of use of public spaces by families in Murcia.
