A new initiative will bring traditional games to schoolyards so that schoolchildren maintain a safe distance (05/08/2020)

| The first phase of the 'Diver-Patios' project will be carried out in four educational centers, but the City Council's objective is to extend it to all schools that request it | The collaboration between the Department of Education and Nursery Schools and the Department of Sustainable Mobility and Youth, through Ferrovial Services and the Graffiti Office, will allow to launch a new initiative in different schools in the municipality.Due to the new situation caused by COVID-19 and in order for schoolchildren from different classrooms to maintain a safe distance in the playground, the 'Diver-Patios' project was born, thanks to which school playgrounds will have games traditional painted on the ground.In addition to promoting traditional games, physical activity and student cooperation are encouraged and the aesthetics of the patios are improved, making them more attractive spaces."Always attending to health recommendations, we have anticipated the return of schoolchildren to classrooms to adapt new spaces for social coexistence, maintaining the distance between the different stable groups of coexistence, and creating games that minimize contacts," explained the councilor of Education and Nursery Schools, Belén López Cambronero."With this initiative, on the one hand we collaborate so that the established regulations are complied with and, on the other, we promote the recovery of traditional games on the ground, as well as a recovery of popular culture," said the councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth Rebeca Pérez.In a first phase, these works will be carried out in four nursery and primary schools that have been selected through the directors' associations: CEIP José Moreno, from the Barrio del Progreso; CEIP La Cruz de El Campillo- El Esparragal; CEIP Infanta Elena de Rincón de Villanueva, Beniaján and CEIP Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, in El Esparragal.The objective of the City Council is to extend this initiative to all educational centers in the municipality that request it.The principals of the schools have selected four of the eight game models presented by the Municipal Graffiti Office, which are the following: Twister, Hopscotch, Labyrinth, Badges, Jump, Three in a Row, Spiral Numbers and Chess.

Each game will occupy an average surface of approximately two square meters.The painting work for these games, which began today at CEIP José Moreno in the Progreso neighborhood, will be extended over the next few weeks and will be carried out by collaborating artists from the Municipal Office of Graffiti.For this, special paints for sports flooring will be used, in order to achieve greater durability and an anti-slip surface.
