The new Cultural Model of the City Council will position Murcia as a benchmark in artistic production (03/08/2020)

| The City Council will make available to the artists of the municipality more than 70 cultural spaces to develop and exhibit their projects | The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Culture and Recovery of Heritage, Jesús Pacheco, presented this morning the new Cultural Model of the Murcia City Council in the Exhibition Hall of La Glorieta.

This new model aims to position Murcia as a privileged place for artistic production and to bring culture closer to all Murcia through exhibition on the street and digital content.“During all these years we have dedicated a special effort to all the cultural activities of the municipality, but the time has come to think about the year 2030, that horizon that we have set within our strategy and model of the City, in which we want the Culture is a nuclear, defining and characteristic element of the municipality of Murcia ”, highlighted José Ballesta."This is a new model of cultural management that revolves around supporting artists and creatives at all stages of their professional development and that will make Murcia a benchmark on the national scene," said José Ballesta, who added that "An open and inclusive model, with which anyone can experience culture in the streets and squares of the municipality, as well as access all cultural content from home through the new digital platform."During the presentation, the mayor recalled that "Murcia, with this model that we are now presenting, has been chosen by the European Commission to lead the roadmap for culture in Europe until the 2030 horizon."This morning the Board of Directors has been constituted that is developing the new Cultural Model, chaired by the Murcian councilman, José Ballesta, which also includes the mayor of Culture and Recovery of Heritage, Jesús Pacheco, as well as staff from the Department of Culture.Specifically, the new Cultural Model is based on three axes: support for artistic production, providing creatives with the infrastructures and financing for the development of their projects; Diffusion of the same with samples and outdoor activities that will bring culture to the street, bringing it closer to all audiences; and promotion of creative initiatives through a new digital platform of the City Council dedicated exclusively to culture.First axis: more artistic residencies and contracting linesThe axes mentioned encompass different actions.

On the one hand, to support creative production and provide creators with spaces to carry out their works, the City Council will develop artistic residencies throughout the municipality, making available to artists the more than 70 cultural spaces in the municipality - museums, rooms , etc. This axis also includes the launch of lines for contracting creative projects, such as those developed within the 'Cultural Reactives' program.Second axis: culture takes to the streetsOn the other hand, to disseminate the projects not only within cultural spaces, but also in the streets of Murcia, the City Council will create a network of open rooms, making culture accessible to all audiences through exhibitions and artistic exhibitions on the air free, like the exhibitions already held in the open-air museum of the Santa Quiteria Palace.Likewise, 'mirror rooms' will be created - a reflection on the street of the artistic activities that are taking place in the different municipal spaces.Third axis: a new digital platform to enhance culture through the virtual windowThe City Council is also working on the creation of a new digital platform –in the style of the well-known audiovisual platforms such as Netflix or HBO-, dedicated exclusively to culture, empowering the sector through digital and audiovisual resources. The objective of this axis is to project the culture of Murcia through audiovisual content and lead innovation in the development of new cultural formats that respond to the digital revolution that is taking place.Complete restructuring of the Culture Area and creation of 'Cultural Districts' in the neighborhoods and districts of MurciaThe implementation of this new model has led to the reorganization of human resources and areas of the Department of Culture. One of the innovations in this structure will be the creation of three areas dedicated exclusively to developing projects related to Murcia's cultural identity.

Thus, the Landscape, Orchard and Water area, the Historical Murcia area and the Medieval Murcia area are created. These departments will develop research projects to deepen the knowledge of Murcia's roots, which will allow us to have a current vision of the pillars that have forged Murcia's identity, as well as connect the different infrastructures and programs related to them.

They will also develop innovation and development projects to respond from a current perspective to the reality of each of those areas. Finally, the reorganization of resources has allowed the creation of an area that will focus on Murcian neighborhoods and districts, organizing the entire municipal territory into 'Cultural Districts'.

Each district will have a cultural program that will enhance its identity.Work tables and forums to embrace all proposalsThe City Council will develop workshops, forums and cultural meetings during the next months, until December, in which residents from all over the municipality will be able to participate to contribute their ideas to the development of the new Cultural Management Model.Example of good practice in Europe"Murcia City Council has been recognized in Europe as an example of good practice, through the 'Cultural Reagents" program, recalled José Ballesta, who declared culture on April 12 as an essential activity in the municipality of Murcia."The people who make up the cultural sector must be protagonists in the coming years.

To contribute their reflections and analysis, to help us move forward without ever losing our identity," added the Murcia councilman.
