More than 50 gardens are controlled and monitored remotely thanks to the Murcia Smart City project (02/08/2020)

| The mechanism controls irrigation with a wifi system and allows remote activation, deactivation or control of water or humidity in the different green areas | The Murcia City Council, through the Department of Urban Development and Administration Modernization led by José Guillén, incorporates into twenty new green spaces a modern system that allows these areas to be controlled remotely with a computer or mobile device, adding a total of 50 gardens in the municipality. In these new spaces it is allowed to activate, deactivate or remotely control the water or humidity of the different green areas.

The mechanism controls irrigation with state-of-the-art systems such as wifi and GPRS, allowing the detection of any leak or breakdown and the stoppage of the irrigation system if it rains. A schedule that is adjusted depending on the station we are in, and that is controlled by 112 programmers located in the gardens of Murcia. Among the places where these Wi-Fi control systems are installed are the Malecon Garden, Chinese Garden, Floridablanca Garden, Fofó Garden, Circular Plaza, South Coast, El Palmar or Santo Ángel, among others. "We continue to work on saving water in the green and wooded areas of Murcia.

For this reason, these automated systems make efficient use of water, measuring the water needs of each area.

We monitor every drop, since water is a scarce resource and essential, especially in our Region "has highlighted José Guillén. The new system expands the existing one in numerous green areas of the municipality and is reviewed and controlled by specialists to verify its correct operation. Among the new spaces where these new remote access points are being installed are Los Chorletes in El Palmar, Villa Carmen in El Ranero, Aljada in Puente Tocinos, Avenida Juan de Borbón in Santiago and Zaraiche, C / Periodista Antonio Herrero in Santiago and Zaraiche , El Secano in Torreagüera and Paseo Santa Águeda in Vistalegre. The parks and gardens of the municipality use an efficient irrigation system with which you save 30% It is important that trees and plants grow healthy to ensure the improvement of the environment, air quality and the safety of citizens by reducing the risk of falling branches. In this way, green areas are also beautified and natural shadows are offered to all the residents of the municipality, with the central objective of improving their quality of life. Likewise, the frequency of irrigation has been modified, occurring at this summer time at night, to improve evapotransmpiration that makes the plant increase its vitality and better absorb the water it needs, saving costs and resources. For this, the automated systems have been updated to irrigate more frequently and the adequate amount of water corresponding to each area is measured, being different at each time of the year.

Irrigation is also controlled in large trees thanks to the Murcia Smart City strategic project Large trees are controlled by sensors that increase security controls reporting the tree environment, temperature, irrigation, soil moisture, as well as foliar. This pioneering initiative, since it is the first time in Spain that it has been carried out on ornamental trees, allows us to have sufficient data to determine a history and predict tree stress situations and minimize risks.

This monitoring system is one more element of MiMurcia's solutions as an integrating platform for information and sound for the different services of the Murcia City Council.
