| The Governing Board today approved the agreement between the City Council and LG that will allow the reforestation of up to 450 hectares of green areas thanks to the union of the Plan Foresta and the Smart Green movement | The Murcia City Council, through the Department of Urban Development and Administration Modernization, led by José Guillén and LG will collaborate in the reforestation of up to 450 hectares of green areas thanks to the union of the Murcia City Council Forest Plan and the movement Smart Green.
In this way, the Governing Board today approved the agreement of intent that has been signed to carry out this project. This agreement will create more green areas and natural shading spaces in the municipality, with seeds that are capable of germinating at 80% of their probability and whose plantations will be carried out with drones that detect the most appropriate areas to carry out the plantations, improving the environment and the quality of life of Murcia.Specifically, the City Council has made available to LG the 450 hectares of municipal green areas that it has available for new plantations. The City Council joins LG's Smart Green movementBy virtue of the agreement, in the field of Sustainability and Innovation, the Murcia City Council becomes one of the collaborating public institutions committed to the LG Spain Smart Green Movement, which started in 2018 and which last year already planted 1.5 million trees in Guadalajara, affected by the fires of August 2012.
All this, with the ultimate goal of reforesting 47 million trees in Spain each year, one per inhabitant, under the social movement # UnaPersonaUnÁrbol. Thus, it joins the movement by making available up to 450 hectares of municipal green areas for new plantations, with the aim of adding these areas to the forests of Spain, in which the Smart Green Movement will reforest more than 3 million trees this year. Plan Foresta objective: reach 200,000 treesThis action is part of the Foresta Plan, the roadmap that is marking urban environmental and landscape planning in the municipality, with which the City Council will double the forest mass for the next ten years, reaching 200,000 copies.Currently, Murcia has about 4 million square meters of green areas.Plantation with drones and smart seedsTo carry out this project, the reforestation technicians of CO2 Revolution, technical partner of the Smart Green Spain Movement, will use 'iSeed' intelligent seeds, embedded in a biodegradable capsule that protects them, ensuring maximum effectiveness in the planting process.
These are pre-germinated seeds that also have super components to enhance their germination and prevent the growth of weeds. The plantations are carried out with drones that have tanks that can hold up to 2,500 seeds, launching them from the air to cover larger areas of land, which also allows them to be planted in areas with difficult access. To carry out this process, a spectrographic camera is used, with which images of the terrain are taken to see if it is appropriate for planting.
Based on parameters that measure the effectiveness of the land, the areas in which the plantations will be carried out are determined.A tree absorbs up to 150 kg of CO2 per year and is an excellent filter for polluting particles in urban settingsA tree absorbs up to 150kg of CO2 per year, making it an excellent filter for urban pollutants, such as gases and small particles in suspension.
In addition, the strategic placement of specimens in urban areas can lower the temperature between 2º and 8º.Also, trees planted around buildings reduce air conditioning needs by 30% and save 20% to 50% on heating. In this context, the Foresta Plan contributes to the consolidation of the 'City Brand' through the development of the improvement of urban landscaping, improving the well-being and health of the residents - not only due to its effects of filtration of polluting particles and Fight against climate change, but also because it is proven that spending time near trees reduces blood pressure and stress, and improves physical and mental health.Murcia Smart CityThe implementation of this project is an action framed within the municipal strategies Plan Foresta, Aire Limpio and Murcia Smart City, since it involves the application of the latest technological innovations at the service of Murcia.Specifically, Murcia Smart City is developed through the MiMurcia project, the smart city model that seeks to put the latest technological innovations at the service of people, as well as improve living conditions in our municipality and the quality of the environment.
