| Social care has increased by 88.65% compared to the same period of the previous year | The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, along with the councilor for Social and Family Rights, Pilar Torres, reported on the device of a social and urgent nature of the Murcia City Council, which is maintained after the end of the state of alarm that took place this past Monday.Since the start of the state of alarm, on March 14, the City Council's Social Services area has attended to more than 11,000 families in the municipality, with whom 18,101 interventions have been carried out.
Compared to the same period of the previous year, the number of families served has represented an increase of 88.65%.To do this, the Social Rights staff was reinforced with 12 new workers and the Governing Board authorized the launch of an urgent and extraordinary emergency procedure that allowed COVID-19 emergency aid to take effect, ranging from 430 euros for single-parent families and 1,071 for multi-member families.As of yesterday, 2,861 emergency grants have been processed for the acquisition of basic food, hygiene and personal hygiene products, and more than 555,100 euros have been paid through this exceptional and unique procedure, which streamlines and shortens waiting times to a minimum, in order to guarantee care for the most vulnerable people in the municipality.Espinardo Social CenterThe mayor visited the Espinardo Social Services Center, located on Calle Escuelas, this morning, where 23 professionals attend and support numerous vulnerable people every day, as in-person care has already begun by appointment, with the appropriate Health and safety measures.A total of 13 Social Work Units are coordinated from the Espinardo Social Center: Cabezo de Torres, Casillas, Churra, Cobatillas, El Puntal, El Raal, Era Alta, Esparragal, Espinardo, Guadalupe, Javalí Nuevo, Javalí Viejo, la Ñora , La Raya, Llano de Brujas, Monteagudo, Nonduermas, Puebla de Soto, Puente Tocinos, Rincón de Beniscornia, Santa Cruz and Zarandona.Municipal Council of Social ServicesThe City Council's social service has also included the processing and resolution of the rest of the City Council's ordinary social benefits, the monitoring of individuals and families with specific needs, emergency care, the application and justification of subsidies, collaboration with volunteers and work coordinated with third sector entities.In this sense, the mayor announced that "next week we are going to convene the Municipal Council of Social Services, an organism of plural participation and of an advisory nature, which will have representatives of the various institutions, entities and associations of the third sector, to face the post-alarm social crisis generated by COVID-19 ”.This body will analyze and propose various urgent social measures, together with professionals from the City Council's Social Services, and will be chaired by the Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta; who will convene in the next few days the representatives appointed today to hold a first session.This advisory body of a social nature will have around twenty members, among which the representatives of the following entities stand out: EAPN-RM (Network for the Fight against Poverty and Social Exclusion of the Region of Murcia), Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (CERMI), Platform for Volunteering in the Region of Murcia, Fundación Secretariado Gitano, Unicef-Murcia Committee, Federation of African Associations of Murcia, Federation of Women's Centers in the municipality of Murcia.More social aid and food distributionIn addition to emergency aid, in this period the City Council has made a total of 1,650 aid worth 1,400,000 euros through the ordinary procedure.In addition, a total of 5,265 families have benefited from access to food aid that the City Council launched through a 750,000 grant to Caritas, the Red Cross and the Segura Food Bank.During the state of alarm, the Galilea commissary was opened in a municipal space, where some 2,000 Murcian families are cared for each month - one hundred daily - through the Caritas team of volunteers and workers.A territorial map was also prepared that allowed the expansion of the food delivery service to the entire municipality, including the districts of Campo de Murcia (Valladolises, Cañadas de San Pedro, Corvera, etc.).
