| The Governing Board approves an expense of 20,000 euros to buy the new machine, which will be put at the service of small Murcian farmers and will be able to access agricultural parcels of dimensions reduced | The Governing Board has authorized at its meeting today an expense worth 20,000 euros for the acquisition of a portable crushing machine that will serve to eliminate pruning for farmers.
This measure is within the agreement that the Department of Sustainable Development and Huerta signed with the Regional Association of Agricultural and Livestock Companies of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia-Agrarian Association of Young Farmers (ADEA-ASAJA).The new crusher that the City is going to acquire is the second that the Government Team makes available to farmers.
Another machine has been in operation since September.
The second machinery has small dimensions, so it will be able to access small agricultural parcels, inaccessible places for the first crusher, which has a larger size. The objective that the City Council pursues with this acquisition is to avoid agricultural burning in the municipality and provide service to small farmers so that they can crush pruning remains in a safe and comfortable way.
In addition, the branches and leaves resulting from pruning will be incorporated into the soil of the fields after being crushed. This measure is part of the environmental project that the City Council has followed in recent years and which seeks to reduce the emission of polluting gases into the atmosphere.By crushing the pruning remains, the environmental deterioration caused by agricultural burning is minimized and a more sustainable, respectful and beneficial practice is made available to farmers, avoiding the generation of polluting gases that will end up in the atmosphere and negatively affect people's health while promoting climate change. The use of the two machines purchased by the Murcian City Council will contribute to improving air quality in the urban environments closest to where agricultural burns occur.
It will also improve the resilience of the soil and its biodiversity and promote circular economy practices in the municipality.20,000 euros for training coursesLikewise, the Governing Board has authorized another expense of 20,000 euros in favor of ADEA-ASAJA for the development of training actions, actions and workshops in the orchards that are aimed at giving a boost to sustainable rural development.Farmers who wish to do so may request ASAJA staff to come to their gardens to explain in a practical way the correct and most efficient way to use the mulchers. The two agreements for which the Governing Board has approved a total investment of 40,000 euros are part of the circular economy strategy followed by the City Council to take advantage of what until now was considered waste.Strategy for adaptation and mitigation to climate changeThe agreements are also linked to the municipal strategy of adaptation and mitigation to climate change because the improvement in the management of agricultural waste will prevent its combustion and help to achieve the objective set by the Government Team for the year 2030 of reducing its CO2 emissions.
by 40%.Likewise, the agreements with ASAJA are part of the Clean Air strategy, which includes numerous measures to reduce pollution and curb climate change, such as the pedestrianization of urban environments, the commitment to clean media in public transport services and street cleaning, free alternative services to agricultural burning and the promotion of green areas.
