The PSOE proposes aid to education from 0 to 3 years old, creating transitory schools, more social canteens and digital media (13/06/2020)

Antonio Benito, who once again remembers that the City Council "is behaving in an unworthy way" with the dining room scholarships whose beneficiaries have not received a euro for a month, proposes measures for schoolchildren and aimed at facilitating work and family reconciliation The Municipal Socialist Group has expressed its concern about the impact of the COVID19 crisis on schooling, especially in the infant and primary stages "where doing good online teaching is very complicated", as explained by Councilman Antonio Benito.

The daily attendance at class of the students of these levels also allows for reconciliation of work and family, especially for working families who cannot afford or reduce working hours, even if they are subsidized, or hire anyone, not even running the risk of losing the job. "That is why in the agreement signed with the municipal groups of Ciudadanos and Podemos (Socioeconomic Reactivation Plan) we include measures aimed at helping minors and their families in this very complex situation," added Benito. The educational norms are still in full negotiation and "one of the sectors that has the most doubts and problems is that of infant education from 0 to 3 years old.

There is a broad consensus that attending a school at this stage, in addition to facilitating family reconciliation, allows a prompt stimulation and social development of minors, so the trend is towards their universalization. However, we suffer a notable shortage of public schools in the municipality and, in addition, the Autonomous Community establishes limits on students (5 per teacher) that a priori, and if they are not modified, will mean that these schools are no longer profitable.

That is why in the agreement we propose that the City Council create a fund to help the most needy families, which, complemented by measures that come from other administrations, allow these schools to be kept alive.

" Benito raises another example of the agreement thanks to which "the City Council could lean on the shoulder, such as making available to the educational authorities (Ministry of Education and University of Murcia) the municipal spaces that may have the appropriate infrastructure and measures so that they can exercise the role of transitional schools, both to give extra classes in summer and to be used next year.

" In addition, there are proposals that food be included in school hours, so, according to the Socialist mayor, "something would also be necessary that is also stated in the agreement, which is to request the Ministry of Education to accelerate and facilitate the installation of new school canteens, complemented by an increase in the number of dining room scholarships, both due to the creation of these new canteens and the probable increase in beneficiaries, as a result of the economic effects of this crisis.

" In this regard, he recalls and regrets that the City Council "is being so negligent" with the dining room scholarships, whose beneficiaries have not received a euro for a month.

"Today, Saturday, June 13, just a month ago, the councilor of the PP responsible stated that they were her top priority, but reality denies it because 30 days later we continue without paying and we already owe almost € 110 to each boy and Likewise, Benito also points out that "for the medium and higher educational levels, online teaching does appear as an alternative, albeit complementary, to the development of the next academic year, but this crisis has highlighted the difficulties of many families in this field.

We can imagine how complicated it has been to share, locked up at home, scarce or inadequate digital media, or even the absence of an internet connection, which is why from the Murcia City Council, as an entity closer to citizens, they can complement and expand the measures that are being taken from other administrations, including some of our municipal boards, providing for the next course of adequate digital media for boys and girls who lack adequate electronic means, such as devices (tablets),data cards, or even reach agreements with internet supply companies to study the installation of domestic or community Wi-Fi networks, thus allowing everyone to develop their full potential, ensure the right to education and thus bridge the digital divide of most vulnerable families.
