The Murcia City Council has published the results of the 16 projects selected from the "Cultural Reactives" program.
It would be good news if it were not for the fact that 152 other projects have been left without funding and it was also announced that 257 projects were presented from the Audiovisual and Scenic Theaters line and many of them will stay in the drawer again due to lack of municipal resources, which that makes us see that the Murcia City Council does not have a true intention to reactivate the sector but to show a benevolent face and get out of trouble. From the Culture Area of ??IU-Verdes Murcia we think that "a contest does not solve the crisis that the sector is going through, it is an easy resource, a patch to be able to put on a medal".
For this reason, we call, once again, for concrete and far-reaching measures to help cultural companies and creators affected by this crisis, measures so that these workers can regain their jobs.
The Area's spokesperson, Manuela Écija, emphasizes that "it is necessary to guarantee the survival of Murcia's cultural structures and of the workers and companies that dedicate themselves to the sector in our land and, in the same way, make effective the right of access to culture on the part of our population.
" This sector cannot continue listening to "siren songs" with the excuse that in September outdoor concerts will be contracted for the music bands, or that performances will be scheduled in "Murcia Verano", it is necessary to sit down and seriously plan the shows that are going to be carried out providing a real solution to these groups. From IU-Verdes we believe that it is necessary to launch a "true cultural program that is not based on macro-shows, macro-festivals, macro-concerts ..." and to bring theater, music and dance projects to neighborhoods and districts that will help local groups to mitigate the adverse effects of this health emergency.
We are convinced that there are budget items that the City Council has not executed and that at least partially could serve to finance cultural activities.
