| The Councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government takes part in the coordination meeting of the 'Colorful Children' initiative to check progress carried out in schools after the situation caused by Covid-19 | The Murcia City Council is closely linked with Europe through the implementation of different projects for the improvement and structuring of the municipality.Specifically, the European Programs Service, dependent on the Department of Urban Agenda and Open Government, led by Mercedes Bernabé, is developing in the schools Luis Costa, in La Flota, and Federico de Arce, in San Antón, the project 'Colorful Children ', framed in the Erasmus Plus program of the European Union in order to work on gender equality.Technicians from this department have held a coordination meeting for the project this week together with the rest of the participants, from Portugal, Italy and Sweden, to discuss the progress made in schools and the situation caused by the Covid-19.The mayor has been in charge of opening this meeting in which she has highlighted that participation and the exchange of experiences thus become a very enriching way of learning for our teachers, a way of learning that we bet on from the City Council with projects like these.
"The participating countries highlight that the process of delivery of the work reports is being favorable with important advances considering the current situation that Europe is suffering.
Likewise, they have agreed to modify the time horizon for the development of the project implementation and introduce the necessary changes to comply with the commitments made.Gender equality from schoolsThe 'Colorful Children' project is aimed at teachers and students of Early Childhood and Primary schools in order to actively learn and work on gender equality.Murcia is immersed in this initiative along with three other European municipalities, such as Torres Vedras (Portugal), Ravenna (Italy) and Härryda (Sweden).
The project started in May 2019 with a teacher training program and is slated to end in late 2021.In this way, the project is developed in a coordinated way among all countries: Sweden is responsible for the methodology; Portugal is in charge of creating the mini-books; Spain, represented in Murcia, is in charge of designing mobile and tablet applications; and Italy is the one that coordinates the communication and dissemination of the different blocks."The Murcia City Council fully subscribes to the importance and value that the European Union gives to this highly relevant issue, since we are convinced that working together we can create a better world and a fairer society", explains Mercedes Bernabé.The tools will be available in English and in the languages ??of the four participating countries (Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Swedish), as well as being used in all Early Childhood education centers in Europe.
