The UMU estimates the economic needs generated by the pandemic at more than 16 million euros (05/06/2020)

The University of Murcia has held this Friday, June 5, a Governing Council in which, among other aspects, the cost that the needs derived from the pandemic of COVID-19 have generated in the institution has been discussed.

The estimate is that the measures adopted to be able to continue with the development of teaching activity will cost around 16 million euros. Specifically, the manager of the UMU, José Antonio Cascales, has reported that the pandemic will generate a loss of income that can reach 3,800,000 euros; a reduction of income to which must be added an investment of around 1,500,000 euros in equipment and infrastructure in information and communication technologies (ICT) to deal with non-contact teaching, both in the current academic year and in the start of the next course.

In protection equipment and in the remodeling of the facilities to guarantee the protection of students and workers to the new reality, the UMU will invest an amount of money estimated at 5,400,000 euros.The University has informed the Autonomous Community of this amount and of the forecast of extraordinary expenses that may continue to occur as a result of the closure of the institution's facilities in March and the adaptations to the new safety distances in the reopening.
