The ´Murcia adds one´ campaign of the Valuewaste project returns to the neighborhood of La Flota (28/05/2020)

| The bi-patrols return to inform the neighbors and give them the household bucket and the compostable bags to participate in the initiative | The 'Murcia adds one' campaign of the Valuewaste project returns to the La Flota neighborhood.

The biopatrols, environmental agents in charge of training and reporting on this European circular economy project, have resumed their activity today both in the Murcia neighborhood and in the food and hospitality markets, large generators of organic waste. This afternoon they will be at the fleet's mobile ecopoint, located in the Three Cups garden, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm to continue the training and information campaign that ended due to the state of alert. The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, explained that "with this project we join the Circular Economy, a new more sustainable, responsible and efficient management model, making Murcia the European leader in selective collection with the implementation of the fifth container "The new brown lid container for organic waste was installed on February 28 in the La Flota neighborhood, completing the selective collection system that has a yellow container for light plastic, metal and briks containers, a blue container for paper and cardboard, the green igloo for glass and mobile Ecopoints, for oils, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, batteries, empty paint or varnish cans, small electronic scrap metal, radiographs, clothing and toys, etc. Before the installation of these containers, the training and information campaign, 'Murcia Suma Uno', was launched in which the bi-patrols reported directly and personally to the residents of La Flota. The first step that was carried out was the preparation of 1,277 surveys, reaching 43% of the residents.

The survey data reflects the high degree of commitment of the residents who carried it out, reflecting in it that "it is a measure that the environment appreciates, it is a matter of social responsibility; it is easy to do and the future is in the economy circular".The State of Alert brought the cessation of informational activity, but adapted to phase 2 of de-escalation, it is restarted again, with the aim of training the residents who, for this reason, did not carry out the survey, did not receive the appropriate information then, and the domestic bucket and the compostable bags that were distributed to the neighbors could not be delivered, as a useful tool that facilitates the work of separating organic remains at home.In this way, the informative activity is resumed, complying with the hygiene conditions set by the competent authorities, in the eight food markets and hospitality establishments in the city center, large generators of organic matter, involving them to an active participation of this differentiated collection in the brown container.Interested people who want information in this regard can find it on the microsite www.murciasumauno.es, on the page www.murciaciudadsostenible.es, where an open channel of communication with citizens is offered.Brown containerOn February 28, the collection service for 28 2,200-liter containers exclusively for organic waste started operating.

.

And the collection data has been on the rise: during the first days, 300 kilograms were recycled daily and currently the average amount is close to 700.

In total, in these two months, 40 tons of organic waste matter have accumulated.

The councilor of this department, Rebeca Pérez, highlights that "the evolution is very positive", adding that "the collected waste is of very good quality, since the Murcians who use the brown container do it correctly and do not throw garbage that is not organic.

"European Valuewaste project: an important step to the circular economyMurcia was the city chosen by the European Union to pioneer the ValueWaste project, a community program to convert urban organic waste into strategic economic resources. This project has 17 partners from 6 different nationalities, including the Murcia City Council and the Kalundborg City Council (Denmark), municipalities in which the pilot tests are being carried out. This important project of the Murcia City Council has the support of Ferrovial Services for the implementation of good practice at the local level, and is also coordinated by the Technological Center for the Environment of the Region of Murcia (Cetenma). As Rebeca Pérez points out, "the brown container is here to stay.

It is one more and very important step, to place Murcia at the head of the green revolution in Europe, changing the recycling model and leading one of the most ambitious bets on the EU on the environment.

"The collected waste that is a source of high-value raw materials, such as food proteins and other nutrients, is transferred to the Cañada Hermosa Treatment Center, where the process to close the circle and recover the proteins and other nutrients that are properly treated There they can again be part of food for people and animals or fertilizers and agricultural nutrients., This anaerobic digestion process is carried out in a pilot plant for breeding black soldier flies, which produces dry larvae, transformed into flour with a high protein content. This project places Murcia at the forefront of waste treatment, allowing the technology applied to effectively use resources, converting waste into resources, putting technology and research at this center at the service of sustainability. The transition to a circular economy, where more products and materials will be shipped back to the business cycle and remain in it for as long as possible, is a key step towards sustainable development with a low-carbon, resource-efficient and competitive economy.

.

Reintroducing end-of-life products into the value chain not only avoids the environmental and economic costs associated with unnecessary extraction of raw materials, but also reduces the environmental and economic costs associated with waste disposal.Residues allowedRemains of fruit and vegetables, leftovers from cooked food, eggshells, shellfish and nuts, coffee grounds and infusions or cork stoppers, matches and sawdust are considered organic waste. Thus, you can deposit in the brown container remains of fruit, vegetables, meat and fish, eggshells, nuts and shellfish, remains of infusions and coffee grounds, matches and corks and sawdust, as well as other remains of cooked and garden food (plants, leaf litter, bouquets ...).You cannot deposit sweeping residues, butts, chewing gum, cooking oil, diapers and personal hygiene products, pet litter, ceramic objects ...
