| The councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government holds a videoconference meeting with the mayor of Cultural Policies of the Italian city to advance in the development of cultural actions | Murcia and Genoa have resumed work on the occasion of the twinning between the two cities to promote their ties of union and the promotion of projects for mutual benefit. The councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé, held a videoconference meeting with the mayor of Cultural Policies of Genoa, Bárbara Grosso, to continue working on this alliance, based on more than nine centuries of history between both territories.During the meeting, the impact of the health crisis caused by Covid-19, its evolution and the measures adopted in the two cities to alleviate the consequences of this situation, very similar in both countries, Spain and Italy, were discussed. One of the pillars of the twinning agreement is the fostering and promotion of culture.
In this sense, the Genoese representatives have presented the initiative that they are carrying out to show the Palaces of Rolli, a World Heritage Site by Unesco, through digital platforms.Likewise, for its part, the City Council has contributed with this action, sharing in its networks the secrets of these emblematic buildings and full of history.
After the 'Rolli Days', name of the initiative, Genoa will be in charge of disseminating a selection of videos of Murcia's heritage and culture.“The twinning between both cities goes beyond the relations between consistories.
Culture is the set of knowledge, expressions and beliefs that characterize a people and, in this sense, Murcia and Genoa maintain a very special bond, dating back to the Islamic period of the reign of Ibn Mardanish, known as 'The Wolf King' , between 1147 and 1172 ”, explains Mercedes Bernabé.Interested in 'Cultural Reagents'Another of the topics discussed at the meeting was the 'Cultural Reactives' project, the initiative launched by the City Council through the Department of Culture and Heritage Recovery, led by Jesús Pacheco, to support this sector in the crisis of the Covid-19.The program, which has been highlighted in the European capitals network Eurocities, is structured around nine calls or 'Calls for projects'.
These open and transparent public calls represent an innovation in cultural management, allowing artists and creatives of any artistic discipline to present their projects to the Consistory for evaluation.
They are aimed at artists of any origin, whether from Murcia, from other parts of Spain or internationally.First work meetingThe councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé, visited Genoa last January to hold her first meetings with the political representatives of the Italian city.
The meeting marked the roadmap in the context of the different lines of work within the twinning and the Urban Agenda. Thus, the management of common projects was discussed, which are currently being implemented with European funding, and marked a joint position on working in city networks at European and international level. The visit also strengthened the relationship with the University of Genoa, since one of the lines of this twinning agreement is the relationship between the two university communities."The alliance between both territories is an opportunity for mutual growth, to share values ??and develop joint projects in areas of common interest," adds Mercedes Bernabé.Two cities united by mobility, culture and cooperationIn addition to the Mediterranean culture, Murcia and Genoa share landscape, gastronomy and ethnography, ties that date back to the 12th century with the signing of the first pact in the Western Mediterranean to promote commercial relations. In the field of joint promotion at the international level, they co-chair the European digital citizenship working group and participate in forums on the environment, cooperation, economy, knowledge society, mobility, social affairs and culture.Another line of joint work focuses on the implementation of new municipal policies through the management of projects financed by the EU.
Currently, Murcia and Genoa share programs in the fields of sustainable mobility, energy efficiency and citizen participation in the revitalization of neighborhoods (ADN Urbano).
