| The consistory will assume the cost of these calls made to the information telephone while the crisis caused by the Covid-19 lasts and permanently | The City Council will begin to attend, as of today, matters relating to social emergencies also through the free telephone number 900 222 900 -up to now dedicated to telephone procedures- while managing the free number 010 permanently for the entire municipality. This decision was agreed in the last municipal plenary session in order to give a better response, once again, to the social demand derived from the Covid-19 crisis.010 is a telephone number belonging to the Citizen Attention Service, dependent on the Department of Urban Agenda and Open Government, which is run by Mercedes Bernabé, where Murcians consult daily issues related to municipal life -taxes, job offers, municipal facilities- since it was put into operation more than 30 years ago.At the end of last March and within the measures adopted in the field of the social emergency caused by the Covid-19 crisis, due to the increase in requests from the social rights service, it was decided to channel the request for social aid derived from the current situation through number 010.“This decision was due to two fundamental reasons: it is a service that knows how to handle the request for information in an extraordinarily efficient way due to its vast experience in this field; and it is also a number known to the vast majority of Murcia ", explains Mercedes Bernabé.In this way, once the change has been formalized, the council will assume the cost of the calls made to the information telephone 010, making it free for all citizens of the municipality.More than three thousand social emergency callsDuring the month of April, the 010 telephone received a total of 3,673 calls related to Social Services, of which 3,319, mostly, correspond to food aid, donations and people who want to collaborate as volunteers. From now on, the toll free number 900 222 900 is also enabled to respond to the most vulnerable people, in addition to providing the service that until now, such as administrative procedures."We are in an exceptional situation, as a consequence of the COVID 19 crisis, which obviously deserves extraordinary responses from the Murcia city council, just as it is doing day by day in the health, social and economic fields," says the mayor.
