| Considers it very difficult to achieve the ecological objectives set for this year | The waste managed during the first quarter is 2% below its forecasts for that period and the health crisis will make it even more difficult to achieve the ecological objectives set for 2020 at 4,204.17 tonsThe quantity of ferrous metals recovered is equivalent to 21 gangways of the Malecon in Murcia The #GreenShop program has 68 affiliated establishments in Murcia Fundación ECOLEC, a non-profit organization that focuses its activity on the recycling of electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), has managed in Murcia during the first quarter of 2020 a total of 827 tons of this type of waste.

This figure is 2% below the collection forecasts that the organization had estimated for this period in Murcia.

ECOLEC continues to carry out its work despite the health crisis of COVID-19, although they believe that it will be very difficult to achieve the ecological objectives set for 2020: despite the fact that the collection, management and treatment of waste has been considered by the Government as an essential activity , the closure of household appliance sales establishments will hinder sales of these products and, consequently, the generation of waste. However, the confinement situation that we have been experiencing for several weeks is leading to a change in our habits, intensifying, for example, the use of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE).

As the CEO of the ECOLEC Foundation, Luis Moreno Jordana, points out, "the confinement has given us the opportunity to dedicate ourselves to activities that we had parked, for example, baking or to interact differently with our family, friends or close friends; thus, we use plus our kitchen appliances, or we use cameras and personal computers to make video calls.

" As the electrical appliance stores are closed, the purchase of these products is being carried out online.

For this reason, Fundación ECOLEC reminds that "in online sales the consumer has the same rights as in the case of acquiring an electrical and electronic device in a physical store: the seller is obliged to remove the replaced device without charge carry out proper waste management.

" And to guarantee the health and safety from the WEEE generation points, logistics platforms and the clean points that are open, "security measures have been extreme by using gloves, masks, handwashing before and after the collecting and maintaining the interpersonal distance recommended by the authorities, "says Moreno Jordana. More than 3,000 tons managed during 2019 In 2019 the ECOLEC Foundation managed a total of 3,068 tons of this type of waste, from which it recovered 1,750 tons of ferrous metals, the equivalent of 21 footbridges on the Malecon in Murcia, ferrous metals that have been reintroduced again in the production cycle. At the national level, ECOLEC exceeded in 2019, for the third consecutive year, the 100 million kilograms of WEEE properly managed, reaching the figure of 123,556 tons, 7.83% more than the previous year.

A figure that is only possible through the collaboration that the Foundation maintains with the different agents: manufacturers, public administrations, waste managers and associations of merchants and distributors of household appliances. #GreenShop program in Murcia In order to facilitate access to the recycling of electronic waste, the ECOLEC Foundation, in collaboration with the Spanish Federation of Home Appliance Merchants (FECE), launched the #GreenShop program in 2017, an initiative that wants to recognize participating home appliance outlets for its real commitment to the circular economy, sustainable development and defense of the environment, in addition to enhancing its role in society. With a total of 68 establishments distributed by the Community, #GreenShop has managed to manage 416,689 kg of electronic waste in 2019 thanks to the collaboration of all citizens.

Under the motto "Join Responsible Recycling", #GreenShop is also present in 10 other Autonomous Communities with a total of 892 affiliated establishments and plans to expand it to the rest of the national territory throughout this year.
