| The products are destined for families derived by Social Services, Cáritas and Jesús Abandonado | Since the declaration of the state of alarm, the Food Bank of Segura has received nearly 250 tons of products (224,000 kilos), including fruits and vegetables, dairy products, fresh food and preserves, which are mainly destined for Cáritas and Jesús Abandonado, as well as families served by Social Services, guaranteeing the supply.To speed up and guarantee the arrival of food to the most vulnerable families or those at risk of exclusion, the City Council has made the Mobile Service for Social and Family Rights (SEMAS) available to the Food Bank."SEMAS teams deliver food to more than 400 families at risk during this period of confinement," said José Ballesta, who has supervised the arrival of donations made to the Food Bank this week with the councilor for Social Rights.
and Family, Pilar Torres, adding that "in this exceptional situation it is essential to highlight the solidarity work carried out by all companies and entities in Murcia donating food."Specifically, SEMAS is in charge of getting the products to the municipal settlements –supplying 249 adults and 109 minors–, and, on the other hand, to attend to urgent requests to deliver food to Social Services families.
This device is made up of 8 Social Services and Local Police workers, divided into 3 teams.
Volunteers from Civil Protection and the Red Cross also collaborate.In addition, this week the City Council has launched, together with Cáritas, the Galilea Commissary in Fica, in which fresh and frozen food is distributed, as well as hygiene and cleaning products to the most vulnerable families in Murcia for free.
The City Council has transferred a municipal building of 409 square meters to Cáritas to undertake this solidarity project.Direct aid of 250,000 eurosLikewise, the Governing Board approved on Friday a direct aid to the Food Bank to acquire food destined for vulnerable families in the municipality, with the objective of facing the social emergency situation caused by the coronavirus.3,500 kilos of artichokes, peppers, zucchini and melons, among other vegetables and 4,500 liters of juiceThis week, the Ingenio Foundation made a donation of 3,500 kilos, a shipment of vegetables from organic and biodynamic cultivation by Camposeven SAT; melons from the company Melones del Abuelo; artichokes, zucchini, broccoli and peppers from Soltir and boxes of various vegetables by the companies Gregal, Mercagrisa and San Cayetano SATThis shipment was distributed by the Caliche Group, which transported the products.
For its part, Via Natura –of the AMC Group– donated 4,500 liters of juice that day to the Food Bank, channeled through the Murcia City Council.ASUMUR donates 30 tonsLikewise, the Association of supermarkets in the Region of Murcia (ASUMU), which groups Super Dumbo, Mercadona, Consum, Musgrave, SPAR-Upper, Mas y Mas and GranbiBio, donated 30 tons of food and basic necessities to the Banco de Murcia Food.
Companies such as Linasa, Soltir and the Caliche Group participated in this donation.In addition, the City Council and Caritas have opened this week the Galilea Commissary.
