| The Governing Board approves a direct subsidy of 250,000 euros | The City Council continues to allocate, as a matter of urgency, subsidies to the different social entities of the municipality in order to face the social emergency situation caused by COVID-19.For this reason, the Governing Board has today approved aid amounting to 250,000 euros for the Food Bank of Segura Association for the purchase of basic food. This subsidy is in addition to the one granted by the Governing Board last week to Caritas Diocese of Cartagena. In this way, as promised by the councilor for Social Rights Pilar Torres, the City Council directly subsidizes the social entities of the municipality in order to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus crisis with global aid of more than one million of euros.
Thus, the Department of Social Rights, through the associations, will be able to acquire basic products and food so that they reach the most needy families. It must be remembered that the Segura Food Bank has received more than 123,000 kilos of basic necessities (123 tons) during the period of confinement, such as fruits and vegetables, dairy products, fresh products and preserves, among other foods, donated by a twenty companies, which are being mainly destined for Cáritas and Jesús Abandonado, entities that are in charge of allocating it to all families, which are derived by the Social Services of the Murcia City Council, guaranteeing the supply of the most vulnerable groups.
