Cáritas Diocese of Cartagena and the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) launch a digital fundraising campaign led by prominent athletes with the aim of increasing the available financial resources to meet the needs of the most socially vulnerable people and families before COVID -19 and accompany them in their inclusion processes. The general secretary of Cáritas, Juan Antonio Illán, has shown "gratitude towards UCAM, always ready to put itself at the service of Murcian society and the social challenges it presents".
The economic impulse that the campaign seeks "will allow better reaching and more people who in complex moments like those we are experiencing do not have their own resources or a family and social network that allows them to face their day-to-day life with guarantees." José Luis Mendoza García, director of Institutional Relations at UCAM, stresses that the University could not remain oblivious to this dramatic situation: "When it seemed that a health recovery was coming, this tsunami left thousands of families without work and without financial resources Caritas is in the front line of battle and from UCAM and the clubs we cannot do anything other than accompany and support this urgent work of the Church.
" In the face of the health and social crisis, Cáritas focuses its efforts on four axes in the Region of Murcia: Information, guidance, help and monitoring for people in situations or at risk of social exclusion through face-to-face visits, telephone calls and video calls.

The coverage of basic food and hygiene needs for vulnerable people and families, expanding the quantity of products, the hours and the human team of the 170 Caritas centers in the community. Adequate and safe accommodation for the homeless with 24-hour psychosocial support and provision of food, hygiene and health products in its network of hostels, shelters and residences. Educational reinforcement to minors accompanied by Cáritas in the Region prior to COVID-19 so that they continue their educational development with the support of social educators and volunteers having material and technological resources at home. The first estimates put the increase in families served by Cáritas at 23% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Caritas' daily services of processed food and delivery have increased by 54%.
The hours of the Caritas commissary have been extended by 80% to guarantee people's safety measures and demand coverage.
The residential reception places of Cáritas for homeless people present a 54% increase. UCAM and the San Antonio Catholic Foundation have been collaborating closely with Cáritas on awareness-raising and volunteer projects focused on social inequalities and the commitment that Christians have in their approach. The #CadaGestoCuenta video, produced by UCAM, joins the campaign to mobilize economic resources launched by Cáritas under the slogan #LaCaridadNoCierra with the approval of the State of Alarm decree.
The video features prominent Olympic athletes from the university such as Mireia Belmonte, Lydia Valentín, Saúl Craviotto and Alejandro Valverde; and players and technicians from professional clubs: Sadiel Rojas, Jarrell Eddie and Sito Alonso (UCAM Murcia CB); Rafa de Vicente and Adán Gurdiel (UCAM Murcia CF);
