With the support of the institution's Voluntary Service, it channels the collaboration of the members of the university community with the authorities and charitable organizations to meet the needs of people with mobility problems.
In just a few days, nearly a hundred volunteers have already registered.
The state of alarm in which the Spanish society is currently has caused that all citizens have to live confined in their homes for the duration of the quarantine.
This situation is especially delicate for the elderly and those with reduced mobility when it comes to doing tasks such as shopping, throwing garbage or taking the dog for a walk.
Aware that this situation affects many Murcians, the Student Council of the Catholic University of Murcia, supported by the institution's Voluntary Service, is creating a network of volunteers to place themselves at the service of the authorities and organizations such as Cáritas and Jesus abandoned to attend to the most pressing tasks.
In just a few days they have already recruited nearly a hundred volunteers.
In addition to meeting the needs of those who cannot go outside, volunteers may perform other tasks according to the needs of public services and the entities with which they will collaborate, such as answering phone calls or providing logistical support in organizing the food and clothing stores that are currently working tirelessly to serve the neediest families.
The appeal to the university community is still open as a form has been opened for UCAM students and workers to register and become part of the university's volunteer corps in the face of the COVID-19 crisis.
Adrián Massotti, President of the Student Council, is satisfied with the response he has had so far from students: "This virus is posing an unprecedented challenge in our society. Therefore, now more than ever, young people must be available to the most vulnerable. With the massive response of the students, the solidarity character of the university community is demonstrated.
