A homeless person recounts his experience at the El Valle hostel in a letter (30/03/2020)

Jorge Antonio López's wish is that his mother now read his writing, which is entitled 'A whole world around me', and feel proud of him

The homeless people who are staying at the El Valle youth hostel and the members of Cáritas and SEMAS have experienced an exciting moment this weekend.

Jorge Antonio López, one of the 46 homeless people who are there, asked Cáritas staff for access to a computer so that he could write a letter that he then read to all his colleagues.

In it he thanks the work of SEMAS, Cáritas and the City Council, for working so that they have "all their needs covered" in addition to serving them "always with a smile and good words".

In the letter, which is entitled 'A whole world around me', he also congratulates himself for being in "installations in a dream place full of green pines, fresh air, birds, squirrels".

It also includes a mention for his colleagues "because despite our difference in cultures, races, creeds and the great variety of personalities, each one of us, we are achieving a bearable and quite harmonious coexistence. I know if everyone could see what I am looking around me would change the concept that many people have of us. "

Jorge Antonio López's wish now is that this letter reaches his mother and that she is proud of him.

It should be remembered that the collaboration between CARM, the City Council, through SEMAS, and Cáritas has allowed these homeless to remain in the youth hostel in El Valle during the period of isolation.

The complete literal text written by Jorge Antonio López is as follows:

We have been confining 46 people in the Valle youth hostel here for a week now in La Alberca de Murcia due to the covid -19 pandemic or better known as the coronavirus.

All this thanks to the generosity of the Murcia City Council that has given us these facilities in a dream place full of green pines, fresh air, birds, squirrels that scamper a few 50 meters from us.

Let's go paradise!

And how not to give infinite thanks to SEMAS "Murcia service of social action" And to Caritas that thanks to both this has been possible and of course they are leaving their skin so that we have all the needs covered in addition to always serving us with a smile and Good words.

They are incredible people !, who work with the 46 of us and always try to meet our needs and demands.

My daily applause at 8 pm also goes for them, of course, yes! In addition to the health workers, security forces, our security guards who watch over our well-being and all those who work to keep this working as pharmacists, carriers, etc.

I would also like to mention my personal thanks to each of my colleagues, despite our differences in cultures, races, creeds and the great variety of personalities each of us.

We are achieving a bearable and quite harmonious coexistence.

It is more when I stop to think that we all come from living on the street I am amazed to see how confused I have been all this time and I know that if everyone could see what I am seeing around me it would change the concept that many people have of us who sometimes even look down on us for being homeless;

yes!

It is true that many of us are alcoholics like me and have even taken some drug, but it is possible that we have received some right hook of life so strong that we have been knocked out in such a way that we have not been able or know how to get up. or perhaps some we have not found or given with the correct or necessary help at that time.

In my case I have been drinking for almost a month and apart from not knowing how much we have left here, I have decided to stay sober, that is, without drinking when all this ends.

As I speak to my colleagues on a day-to-day basis, I realize that I am surrounded by very valid people, from exploited workers in the fields 12 or 15 hours a day for a ridiculous salary, to transportation professionals, computer scientists, cleaning ladies, housewives. from home, talented writers, great cooks, bartenders, painters and even professionals from the armed forces, legionaries, etc.

That some of them have even been on peace missions in conflict zones and have exposed their lives to defend this our great country.

To all of them "thank you" and to the rest of us, good luck and luck in life, and to you also, much good cheer, because all of us together, including the homeless, "we are going to achieve it.

Cheer up
