The University of Murcia delivered last week to the Murcian Health Service all the material that its centers and faculties had stored and that can be used by health personnel for their protection during the health crisis generated by COVID-19.
The Murcian Health Service asked the UMU for all the materials it had available and a call was made from the Rectorate to all the services and departments to deliver the basic material;
especially masks, gloves, and gowns.
Everything collected has been distributed by different public hospitals in the Region, according to SMS demand.
Specifically, the University of Murcia a total of 221,560 nitrile gloves, 6,519 masks, 5,000 latex gloves, 1,674 disposable gowns, 282 divers, 3,360 hats, 3,940 hose, 1,071 goggles, 170 hydro-alcoholic solutions, 41 liters of alcohol and 260 sample collection units.
The rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján, has sent a message to the university community "the great involvement of the centers, the departments, the Research groups and the services, as well as the enormous generosity of all the people who have collaborated for the donation of this material. "
This donation joins the participation of the University of Murcia, through the Mechanical Workshop area of ​​the Scientific and Technical Research Area in the AI.RE project, which is how the international initiative 'Open Source COVID- has been called in Spain. 19 Medical Supplies', whose purpose is that professionals from different fields work in coordination to design and manufacture in record time, and at low cost, medical supplies that are scarce in hospitals with the current coronavirus crisis.
As part of this project, UMU 3D printers manufacture protective visors for healthcare professionals, which are already being delivered to the SMS.
Masks of the elderly classroom
On the other hand, students from the Senior Classroom of the University of Murcia have coordinated to manufacture face masks from their homes.
This Monday, almost 500 masks had already been delivered and continue to produce.
