The University of Murcia delivers SMS face protection visors made with 3D printers (23/03/2020)

The Mechanical Workshop of the Scientific and Technical Research Area (ACTI) of the University of Murcia has already started the massive manufacture of visors for face protection screens with 3D printers to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the moment three 3D printers are operational and sixty visors have been delivered to the Murcia Health Service.

This initiative is part of the AI.RE project, which is what the international initiative 'Open Source COVID-19 Medical Supplies' has been called in Spain, whose purpose is for professionals from different fields to work in coordination to design and manufacture in record time, and at low cost, medical supplies that are scarce in hospitals with the current coronavirus crisis.

On the website http://www.um.es/proyecto-aire there is a document so that companies, individuals, educational centers and anyone interested knows how to collaborate in this project and which contains the instructions to print these visors. .

It also indicates where to deposit them for the SMS to collect.

In addition to the manufacturing work itself, the ACTI Mechanic Workshop is collaborating through forums and messaging platforms in the validation of all designs, which include masks and respirators.

They also offer information to anyone interested on how to participate in the project and any questions that may arise regarding the registration of printers and parts manufactured in the census that has been prepared to achieve better traceability, printing parameters, points of collection, etc.

As for the material necessary for the design and manufacture of these materials, ACTI is managing with different companies the donation of consumables such as filament of different materials, acetates for facial protection screens, software licenses and even the transportation of parts. finished to collection points for later delivery to hospitals.

After the delivery of materials, the Comprehensive Supply Unit (UAI) of the Murcian Health Service will be in charge of disinfecting them and their subsequent delivery to hospitals in the region in percentages, according to their needs.
