The City Council, through the Public Lighting service, dependent on the Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, installed in the last year a total of 4,937 new light points.
"These actions are carried out with the safety of our neighbors in mind, for which it is necessary to provide our arteries with better and greater lighting that facilitates circulation, both for pedestrians and drivers," says José Guillén.
The actions carried out during the last year have reduced 476 kW of power and an energy saving of 1,475,000 kWh.
Likewise, the installation of the new light points in the different places of the municipality has meant a reduction of 690,000 kilos of CO2 into the atmosphere and an economic saving of 206,587 euros.
“It should be noted that the modernization of our lighting contributes to improving the environment.
We are equipping our arteries with new ultra-low consumption lights, which means an improvement in the quality of life for our neighbors, "says the councilman.
These actions have been carried out in: Llano de Brujas, Cañadas de San Pedro, Alquerías, El Esparragal, Santa Cruz, Casillas, Monteagudo, Torreagüera, Beniaján, Los Dolores, Los Garres, La Albatalía, Sangonera la Verde, Corvera, Carrascoy La Murta, Cañada Hermosa, Algezares, El Palmar, Los Dolores, Aljucer, La Arboleja, Cabezo de Torres, Puente Tocinos, Guadalupe, Los Ramos, Rincón de Seca, La Raya, Espinardo, Jerónimo and Avileses, Valladolises, Sangonera la Seca, as well as the urban area of ​​Murcia.
These works are framed within the Smart City strategy in the area of ​​Energy Efficiency, within the actions of the Public Lighting Maintenance Service to modernize existing luminaires with ultra-low consumption ones.
New points of light in Pintor Sobejano street
The councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, visited Pintor Sobejano Street this morning, where the luminaires are being renovated for other ultra-low-consumption, latest-generation lights.
Specifically, this artery of the Plano de San Francisco, at the entrance to Murcia, is being renovated, with the installation of 42 LED technology light points, which will go from having a total power of 11,550 W to 3,150 W, which means a reduction of the installed power of 8,400 W and an economic saving of 3,700 euros per year.
Likewise, the installation of the new low-consumption light points on this avenue at the entrance to Murcia will reduce the emission of 13 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
The councilor explains that "with these improvements it contributes to slowing down climate change, since this technology reduces consumption and the emission of carbon dioxide, which is a commitment to the quality of life of the residents."
