The City Council will donate the luminaires removed in good condition to underdeveloped countries (08/03/2020)

The units will be delivered to organizations or installed in other places that require new points of light.

The Department of Urban Development has modernized the lights for others with LED technology in ten avenues of the municipality so far this year.

José Guillén: "With this decision, we are advancing in the application of measures that improve sustainability, by reusing resources that have a long useful life."

The City Council, through the Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, works daily in the modernization of street lighting in different streets and districts of the municipality, within the Murcia Smart City strategy.

Thus, only so far this year, during January and February, a total of 370 new LED technology light points have already been installed in ten avenues of Murcia and districts.

These works are framed in the Energy Efficiency plan, within the actions of the Public Lighting Maintenance Service that the Electromur company has been providing since May 2018, modernizing the existing luminaires for others of ultra low consumption.

Councilor José Guillén explains that “a large number of the disassembled luminaires are in perfect condition, which is why we have decided to begin the procedures for the transfer of this material to organizations committed to improving the quality of life of people living in underdeveloped countries".

Specifically, today, there are approximately 200 luminaires, made of cast aluminum, which are in proper condition, even with the sodium vapor lamp, ready for installation.

“With this decision, the City of Murcia makes a new advance in the application of measures that improve sustainability, by reusing resources that have a long useful life,†explains José Guillén.

The session is immersed in a process of transformation towards a sustainable city model, more participatory and more prepared for the future.

In addition to strategies such as Clean Air, Smart City MiMurcia or Electric Vehicle, waste management actions are framed, which will soon enter the Circular Economy Strategy.
