Nevado says that "at this time when we vindicate women on the occasion of 8M, we have to remember the most invisible, and above all demand compromised policies of administrations such as the City Council for employment, training and accommodation"
The councilors of the Municipal Socialist Group Carmen Fructuoso and Esther Nevado have visited the three floors of Abandoned Jesus where women live homeless and in a situation of social exclusion with hard life experiences behind them and trying to resume their lives thanks to housing, support and training offered by this organization.
According to Nevado, "these are women who have gone through dramatic personal situations but now see an opportunity with the resources offered by Abandoned Jesus, an organization that has three floors and each of them welcomes four tenants, which is insufficient because he has a waiting list. "
Therefore, he considers that the administrations, in this case the City of Murcia, "have to take the initiative when establishing the lines of work of the Department, determine what objectives are those that are to be achieved and design an order of priorities ".
"For us, women in exclusion are a priority, we do not understand how a housing program for this group is not supported from the Department," warns the councilor, who points out that the City Council promised to finance these apartments with 252,000 euros, but He has not complied.
"In these moments when we vindicate women on the occasion of 8M, we have to remember the most invisible, who need compromised policies for employment, training and accommodation," both councilors point out.
Nevado explains that "in the municipality of Murcia the poverty risk rates are four points higher in women than in men," according to EAPN data, which makes it difficult for them to access housing, since they suffer from total precariousness, due to on the one hand partial contracts and on the other the temporality of work. "In this regard, he clarifies that while women have 23.9% of temporary contracts, in the case of men it is only 7%. To this, in addition, there are To add that 81.9% of single-parent families are supported by women.
Therefore, "there is an undeniable reality and that is that women who do not have family and social support need coverage from the administration and in that coverage housing is essential because from the time they have a home they can receive training, support and even to a job, "says Nevado, who also points out that" it is not about enabling places in pensions or shelters, but about offering homes. "
During these last weeks and on the occasion of the commemoration of the 8M the socialist councilors, Teresa Franco, Carmen Fructuoso, Esther Nevado and Ainhoa Sánchez, have presented various initiatives to protect and claim women, such as safe bus stops or homage to neighboring districts.
