The mayor, the directors of the 27 Secondary Education centers and the student representatives sign the subsidized collaboration agreements with 110,000 euros.

The mayor of Murcia, Jos Ballesta, the directors of the 27 Institutes of Secondary Education of the municipality and representatives of the students of each center, today signed the collaboration agreements by which the 25,000 students that make up the community of Secondary School students Murcia, are doing extracurricular activities during this course, thanks to a municipal grant of 110,000 euros.
The event, which was attended by the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Prez, has taken place at the Francisco Cascales Institute.
“In total there are 168 activities complementary to academic training between workshops and courses in performing arts and new technologies;
training activities on, for example, the correct use of social networks or road education;
conferences, conferences and reading, debate and chess clubs;
as well as outdoor activities in nature, ”said Jos Ballesta.
In this sense, he added that “the integral formation in values and ethical principles in a decisive moment of life such as adolescence, is key so that our young people are tomorrow not only excellent professionals but also people committed to their social environment and family".
The City Council recovered these grants in 2016 and increased their amount last 2018, bringing these extracurricular activities to the 27 institutes of the municipality.
With an average amount of about 4,000 euros per center, the projects and workshops are taught outside school hours and have received a total or partial grant.
The activities - some of which began to be taught at the beginning of the course while others will be taught throughout the second and third trimesters - have been proposed by the centers themselves.
It is the institutes that inform the students of the specific offer of their center.
The total municipal funds for grants is 110,000 euros, prioritizing the activities most demanded by the students themselves.
Subsidized activities for the 2019/2020 academic year
The most numerous, with a total of 129 activities, are workshops and training courses in the following disciplines: Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Plastic Arts, Comic, Music, Literature, Crafts, Design, New Technologies.
A total of 23 activities are followed by conferences, conferences and reading, debate and chess clubs.
Also noteworthy are the formative and / or informative activities (a total of 12) that serve, among others, the following contents: Health education, Integration and tolerance, Road education, Environmental education, School violence, Gender equality, Use of social networks, personal growth.
Finally, there are outdoor activities in nature, with four proposals.
Advice for young people and stays abroad
In addition to the subsidized activities, the Municipal Youth Service also offers this school year the following programs: Youth counseling and youth information points, European programs for young people, Language stays abroad, Language Club, Summer camps, Leisure and free time activities at the weekend (Networks for Leisure Time) and the CreaMurcia Contest.
