The University of Murcia has inaugurated this Monday, March 2, the new access to the dissuasive parking lot of the Health Sciences campus, located in the surroundings of the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital.
The event was attended by the rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján, and the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta.
The car park is located on the plot adjacent to the campus and can accommodate more than 800 vehicles.
The new access is an improvement for road traffic in the area, which usually records traffic jams in and out of the A-30 at peak times.
Users who go to the university campus can now turn off along Ciudad Sanitaria Avenue, avoiding the passage through Campo Street and Buenavista Avenue.
The retentions that usually occurred on the roads surrounding the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Hospital will be relieved.
The work, which has been executed in two months, includes a pedestrian access to the car park, the installation of barriers and a guardhouse for access control, which is restricted to members of the university community.
In order to carry out this work it has been necessary to relocate the transformation center and install underground containers.
The traffic light network has also been expanded and the sidewalks and bike lanes that connect to the cattle route have been continued.
The new access to the parking of the Health Sciences campus is an action promoted by the Vice-Rectorate for Infrastructure Planning and supervised by the Infrastructure and Development Service of the Technical Unit Area of the University of Murcia.
Its execution was awarded to an external company through a public tender for an amount of 213,140.27 euros, financed with own funds of the University of Murcia.
This action is part of the Special Infrastructure Plan of the Campus of Health Sciences-Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca, approved by the City of Murcia on 07/10/2012.
