The City Council has convened for Tuesday the Social Council of Murcia, CSM, an organ of citizen participation, of a consultative nature, which is made up of representatives of the most representative economic, social, professional and neighboring organizations of the municipality of Murcia.

This body is attached to the Department of Urban Agenda and Open Government, which Mercedes Bernabé directs, and enjoys the exercise of its functions of full autonomy and independence.

After the renewal of its members, the Social Council will take stock in the next session on the different projects of the Murcia 2020 City Strategy, among which are: Murcia Río, the underground works, the recovery of the cultural heritage of the orchard, the pedestrianization of Alfonso X, as well as the bike lanes and the Greenway, the recovery of the natural heritage, works in districts, large structural equipment or the projects Urban DNA and DNA Connects.

Next, the next Strategy of City Murcia 2030 will be addressed, in which the City Council is working, through the Department of Urban Agenda, for more than a year with a view to the financial programming period of the European Union 2021-2027 .

"The Ministry of Development, after analyzing the initial documents developed for this new period, has selected Murcia as a pilot experience of implementing the Spanish Urban Agenda at the national level," said Mercedes Bernabé.

In this way, the mayor said that “next Tuesday the Social Council of the City will be informed about the methodology that will be followed, based on the previous work already done, for the design of this new project of Ciudad Murcia 2030 and will request the collaboration of its members, through the working groups, whose content and denomination will be explained in said session �.

Also, another issue that will be addressed in the Social Council will be Murcia Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2020.

Strategic City Planning

Among its tasks, it is important to issue reports of an optional and consultative nature, which are requested by the municipal corporation, of economic development, strategic planning of the city and large urban projects.

In addition to approving the report of activities of the Council and raising it, within the first half of each year, to the municipal corporation.

The Council is also responsible for raising studies and research, in collaboration with public or private entities, where appropriate, for the knowledge and dissemination of relevant aspects of the sectors under action.

"In short, this body is one of the forums for dialogue and participation of the most representative social agents of the session, as well as a very important body for consultation and advice," explains Mercedes Bernabé.
