The spokesman of the Municipal Group, Ginés Ruiz, has highlighted the ability of public transport to articulate the municipality and the entire metropolitan area, achieving a social and mobility improvement, as well as reducing pollution levels.
Start studies for the extension of the Tramway both to the south of the municipality, to the hamlet of El Palmar, and to the north, connecting with Molina de Segura, and creating a new line that connects with Alcantarillla and the West Industrial Estate;
they constitute the main measures that we can propose We-EQUO this Thursday in the municipal plenary.
"If we really want to improve the mobility and pollution problems that Murcia and its metropolitan area have, it is time to start really planning a clean, effective, and efficient public transport" explains Ginés Ruiz, spokesman for Podemos - Equo in the Murcia City Council, "transportation that must also reach the main traffic generating centers, such as the West Industrial Estate and the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Hospital; as long as the tram network is not extended, not only will it not have economic profitability, but that, what is more serious, it will not have a social or just environmental profitability ".
In this way, the councilor stressed that "traveling by private vehicle will not be reduced voluntarily if we do not make it easier for workers to get to their jobs in fast and efficient public transport. And we can never limit car traffic. in certain areas, if as a City Council we are unable to propose alternatives, "adding that" we need to change the municipal approach to public transport policies; it is not about improving public transport for use by those who cannot use a private vehicle, which is what is done today; we must change the approach, and treat public transport as the main transport option in the municipality for trips that are not made on foot or by bicycle. "
Ginés Ruiz has also emphasized the opportunity of the next construction of a new intermodal station in the El Carmen neighborhood, because as he explained "connect, via the tram, the intermodal station with the main industrial estate in the area, the main hospital, and the other two cities in the metropolitan area, would be a huge qualitative step in the fight against pollution. "
For this, he said, it would also be interesting to collaborate with the three municipalities (Murcia, Molina de Segura and Alcantarilla) together with the Ministry of Development, with the aim of creating a consortium of transport covering the metropolitan area.
"Betting on a model of public and sustainable mobility will mean economic savings, reduction of the time we spend in traffic jams, and reduction of pollution. It is not a fad, nor is it an occurrence, nor a question of ideology; it is a matter of mere survival as municipality".
