The awareness of 3,000 drivers allows to stop emitting between 2.7 and 3.2 tons less CO2 into the atmosphere during the day yesterday (25/01/2020)

The different measures implemented by the City Council in order to minimize the pollution episode have generated a good reception and awareness on the part of Murcia.

Based on the data, traffic decreased during the day yesterday by a total of 2,988 vehicles compared to the previous Friday.

The most important drop was between 8.00 and 14.00, with a total average of 4.63%, with the decrease between 8.00 and 10.00 hours of 8.2%.

From 2 pm to 11 pm, the average decrease was 2.09%.

The most pronounced decrease in traffic was recorded in the downtown area.

Plazas Circular, Martínez Tornel and González Conde were, in that order, the points where the intensity decreased the most.

In this way, according to the estimates, it would have been possible to reduce yesterday between 2.7 and 3.2 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Forecast for the next days

With respect to atmospheric forecasts, the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) foresees for today and tomorrow that there is the current event of intrusion of air masses of African origin on the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.

Thus, during today, concentrations of mineral dust in the range 40-180 μg / m3 may be recorded in the Balearic Islands and in areas of the eastern and southeastern peninsular.

Tomorrow the concentrations will tend to be reduced, although mineral dust concentrations in the range 40-80 μg / m3 could still be recorded in areas of the northeast, east and southeast of the peninsula.

In addition, according to the SKIRON model, it is anticipated that there will be events of dry dust deposition in areas of the Balearic archipelago and the eastern peninsular third and in areas of the peninsular northwest during the morning afternoon.

There may also be events of wet dust deposition in areas of the southeast, east and southeast of the peninsular throughout the weekend.

For Monday it is expected that throughout the day mineral dust concentrations can be registered in the range 20-40 μg / m3 in areas of the center and peninsular lift, as well as in the Canary archipelago, and that in the afternoon they could register in areas of the southeast peninsular.

There could be isolated events of dry dust deposition in central, northeastern and peninsular areas starting at noon.

Late yesterday, Friday, the low pressure system began a transition to the Alboran Sea and the Palos area, affecting the Region of Murcia today, which would cause an increase in atmospheric instability and precipitation probability during the afternoon.

Until then, a flow of East component and Southeast component at high levels over the Region, as well as relatively stable atmospheric conditions, will predominate at low levels of the atmosphere.

As of tomorrow, the atmospheric situation will stabilize rapidly by rolling the flow to Northwest composites that will present moderate intervals in the central hours.

On Monday, the anticyclonic situation, the flow of the West at all levels and atmospheric stability will be maintained.
