The new Tranvibús lines will stop emitting more than 10,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere (24/01/2020)

The Governing Board has approved today the projects of the new tranches for the request for funding by the European Regional Development Fund FEDER 2014-2020, as it had done with the Floridablanca-El Palmar line.

The City Council advances in the vertebration of the municipality through the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan

The Governing Board has approved today the request for European funds for the projects of 'Reorganization and conditioning of the public road for the implementation of collective public transport of alternative energies and promotion of pedestrian mobility: Tranvibus', relating to new lines that will join to the already approved one, which will link Floridablanca with El Palmar.

Thus, from now on, the Consistory will begin, as it already did with the El Palmar line, the procedure for the request for financing by the European Regional Development Fund FEDER 2014-2020 of the new tranches.

These projects are likely to be subsidized by measure 8 of 'Implementation of sustainable urban mobility plans', within the specific objective 4.5.1 of' Sustainable Urban Mobility: Clean urban transport, collective transport, urban-rural connection, network improvements road, bicycle transport and development of clean energy supply systems'.

Specifically, the new approved lines will stop emitting a total of 10,075 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere and will involve 14,440 fewer trips per vehicle per day.

Also, as a whole, the sections will save 19.93% of energy consumption.

The City Council is thus advancing in the structuring of the municipality through its mobility project, which will allow the creation of an efficient public transport model and will bring great benefits to citizens, as it represents a means of mobility that is more environmentally friendly, clean, with which will contribute to mitigate CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

A clean and sustainable environment

The operation of the BRT, or Tranvibús, is similar to that of a surface meter and will involve the creation, for the first time, of a higher-scale system that will serve the metropolitan area of Murcia, with high capacity (especially at rush hour), speed and versatility, enabling a new means of transport from which the most remote population centers will especially benefit.

These large structuring lines will sew the municipality towards the four cardinal points and will be connected with each other and with other means creating a radial system that will revolutionize transport in the metropolitan area, which brings together 52% of travelers.

BRT lines will run along fast lanes and will be connected to each other in new intermodal stations.

They will have an agile access and payment system similar to that of the tram.

The future line that will link the Barrio del Carmen, from Floridablanca, with El Palmar, already approved and that will be presented soon, is one of the most traveled routes by the neighbors.

Its proximity to the city center, as well as the Carmen station, make it a section of special relevance for the implementation of this municipal plan, since it will connect the center with the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital, the largest of the region.

The new lines approved today will allow to connect the neighborhood of El Carmen with Puebla de Soto, Watchtowers with Montepinar, El Palmar with the Polígono de San Ginés, and the Circular plaza with the Immigration Office, on the Madrid road, next to the University , which will allow to vertebrate the municipality from North to South and from East to West.

The Atalayas-Montepinar line has a total budget of 4,387,522.19 euros, of which 80% would come from the FEDER Regional Development Fund (3,510,017.76 euros) and 20% from the municipal contribution (877,504, € 44).

The line that will connect the Barrio del Carmen with Puebla de Soto has a total budget of 3,539,874.89 euros, of which 80% from the ERDF (2,831,899.91 euros) and 20% of municipal contribution ( 707,974.98 euros).

The one that will join El Palmar with the San Ginés Industrial Estate will cost 2,015,808.20 euros.

Thus, 80% will come from the ERDF (1,612,646.56 euros) and the remaining 20% of municipal contribution (403,161.64 euros).

Finally, the line that will link the Circular Plaza with Foreigners, next to the University, will cost 4,515,749.05 euros.

Likewise, 80% would come from European funds (3,612,599.24 euros) and 20% from municipal funds (903,149.81 euros).

The purpose of these subsidies is to encourage and promote the performance of actions, by Spanish municipalities or groups formed by municipalities belonging to the same autonomous community, in addition to the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, which reduce carbon dioxide emissions by the execution of singular projects of saving and energy efficiency, sustainable urban mobility and use of renewable energies, in accordance with the provisions of the FEDER Operational Program for Sustainable Growth 2014-2020.

The Department of Sustainable Mobility and Youth, directed by Rebeca Pérez, is the coordinator of this project thanks to the service of European Programs, under the Department of Urban Agenda and Open Government, directed by Mercedes Bernabé, through European programs.
