The Councilor for Culture and Heritage Recovery, Jesús Pacheco, explained that "this cultural space was the original headquarters of the University of Murcia, in the Graduate Schools, dedicated to the teaching of Science and built in the popular Barrio del Carmen, together to the Church of the same name. Here the University remained from 1917 to 1935, the year in which it moved to the Merced Campus. "
In addition, room 8 of the LAC Art Center will be named in homage to the Murcian scientist Piedad de la Cierva, who on October 2, 1928 began studying at these facilities, becoming the first woman to study at the University of Murcia .
De la Cierva (Murcia, June 1, 1913 - Madrid, December 31, 2007) was a Spanish scientist, a pioneer in the studies of artificial radiation in Spain and in the industrialization of optical glass.
To celebrate this event, we wanted to honor the woman and her relevant role at the University of Murcia with a parade of the Murcian couture firm 'De la Cierva & Nicolás', relatives of Piedad de la Cierva, which will take place at from 20 hours, with free access.
Pacheco has indicated that "in the Artistic Laboratory of Carmen we bet from its conception for artistic diversity in all its fields and for this we wanted to unite fashion with art through this parade entitled 'Jardín d´Hiver'.
