The City Council convenes the operational committee of the air pollution episode due to the intrusion of African mineral dust (23/01/2020)

Before the intrusion of African mineral dust in the southeast of Spain, which affects the municipality of Murcia, the Mayor has announced the convening of the operational committee of air pollution episode that will meet at 13.30 in the meeting room of the sixth floor of the municipal building of Abenarabi.

José Ballesta has indicated that "yesterday there was a massive influx of atmospheric mineral dust from Africa to the entire southeast of Spain, which caused PM10 levels to have suddenly increased. We have called the operational committee to meet at level 2 of the protocol in order to take necessary measures to alleviate this episode of contamination. "

"From the City Council we have to act immediately for responsibility and with the aim of preserving and protecting the health of all Murcia. We will adopt the measures that have to be taken without any reservations since our primary objective is health and tranquility of all Murcia, "said the Mayor

The activation and deactivation of the measures and their execution will be coordinated by the Deputy Mayor responsible for the Environment, Antonio Navarro, who will chair the operational group responsible for the application of the Protocol.

In addition, representatives of the Government Delegation and the Autonomous Community have been invited to learn about the different actions first hand.

During the meeting it will be verified that the mechanisms planned to implement the actions are available and work correctly and the need to apply other additional measures will be studied.

This operating group will consist of the following members:

- Head of the Service with environmental competencies

- Designated responsible for the Service with competencies in inspection of works and activities

- Designated head of the Mayor's Office

- Designated Head of the Local Police

- Responsible for the Civil Protection Service

- Designated person in charge of the Fire and Rescue Service

- Designated responsible of the Service with competences in Health

- Designated responsible of the Services responsible for the concession companies of public transport and road cleaning

- Designated Head of the Computing Service

- Responsible for the Service with competencies in Traffic

- Designated responsible of the Service with competences in Sports
