The Councilor for Employment, Economic Promotion and Tourism, Pedro García Rex, will present tomorrow in Fitur Wednesday the tourist results of 2019 in Murcia, as well as the forecasts that the Department wants to achieve in terms of traveler data and occupation for the year in progress.
Some data that, according to the Department of Tourism, will be overcome in 2020 thanks to the designation of Murcia as the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy and the attractiveness of this culinary event for national and foreign tourism.
Also, the responsible mayor, taking advantage of his presence at the International Tourism Fair, will present a new promotional video for the national and foreign market that under the name "Murcia: a city, a thousand lives" shows the municipality environment through a sequence of places, activities and experiences available to the visitor in the most attractive spaces of the city.
The number of travelers grows
On the tourist results of 2019, the total number of registered travelers during the year has reached 480,783 people, which represents an increase of 3.09% over the same period of the previous year, according to the data provided by the National Statistics Institute ( INE).
780,000 overnight stays are exceeded
As for overnight stays, they have grown by 0.52% during the same period to reach 784,656, which consolidates the upward trend reflected in the last four years, with a percentage growth of 36.27% recorded since the year 2015
The head of Tourism has assessed this data very positively.
"We closed 2019 with record figures in terms of visitors and overnight stays that place Murcia as one of the relevant urban and cultural tourism destinations in southeastern Spain."
Heritage, history and culture
In this sense, García Rex has highlighted these tourist results that are based on the wealth of heritage, history and culture of Murcia, to which other attractions are added, such as its excellent cuisine and the wide and varied range of services and activities offered by the municipality.
The Councilor for Tourism has also stressed "the need to maintain a schedule of activities for visitors that allows to know the rich heritage of the city, in addition to boosting tourism competitiveness through new technologies applied to tourism and the Network of Smart Tourist Destinations. "

With respect to hotel occupancy, it has stood at figures similar to 2018 with 60.44%.
The average price has grown slightly to reach 54.19 euros per room, compared to 53.39 euros in 2018. Murcia brings together 35.21% of the total tourism recorded in the Region.
"Murcia is the seventh city by number of inhabitants of the country and has all kinds of services and offers aimed at tourism," said Garcia Rex, who said that "the culinary routes, tastings and culinary exhibitions planned for this year will be another more reason to visit Murcia and monopolize the tourist and leisure offer through the many activities related to the restoration that will be developed ".
