The City Council carries out more than 17,000 actions in fountains and lakes of the municipality during 2019 (18/01/2020)

The works contemplate the improvement and supervision of the state of the water, such as chlorination, treatment and visual appearance.

In addition, in the 80 sources and nine lakes, emptying, cleaning and filling have been carried out almost twenty times, in order to carry out what is known as detailed inspection and cleaning.

"These infrastructures are important landscape elements of our environment. Their conservation and maintenance are a priority not only at the aesthetic level, but also in terms of health, since their status contributes to the quality of life of the neighbors," said Councilor José Guillén.

The City of Murcia has daily control and monitoring of the sources and lakes of the municipality, actions based on the constant improvement and monitoring of the state of the water, its chlorination and its visual appearance.

The Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, points out that “among the data of the 2019 actions, the more than 17,282 daily cleanings that have been carried out in the sources and lakes of the municipality stand out, for which we have worked in reducing the water consumption of these spaces, as well as in a more efficient chlorination system that allows less intervention with a greater result â€.

Also, since the end of May the chlorinated and water treatments have increased, reaching 14,897.

The corresponding water analyzes have also been carried out, which allow checking their status and improvement.

In addition, in the 80 sources and nine lakes, emptying, cleaning and filling have been carried out almost twenty times, in order to carry out what is known as detailed inspection and cleaning.

In this way, they have also been carried out around fifty painting tasks.

These actions are carried out by a total of 20 people distributed in eight teams, of which seven of them belong to groups at risk of exclusion.

In this way, Guillén emphasizes, the bet continues, both from the Murcian council and from the company STV Gestión, “for the full integration of all types of groups in the improvement and care of the fountains and lakes of the municipality of Murciaâ€.

Regarding specific reforms and maintenance, only 160 actions have been carried out in the last semester, which implies a high degree of demand and quality for the citizen.

Pool Plan

The Pool Plan encompasses four major measures, including the renovation of nine major works, such as the four ponds, such as La Seda, El Salitre, Los Patos, in San Ginés, and Fofó Park, and the five fountains historical sites, such as the Circular Square, the Clock Tower House (Tocinos Bridge), the José Cánovas Ortiz Garden (Beniaján), Juana Jugán Avenue (Tocinos Bridge) and Liberty Avenue (Guadalupe).

The construction of ten new ornamental fountains in the most emblematic places of the city, such as Santo Domingo and San Esteban;

the holding of an annual contest of ideas, in which the winning project will be executed;

and the investment of 100,000 euros per year for the construction of new sources in the municipality and its districts, for five years, are the other three major measures that make up the Pool Plan.

"Water is very present in the history of our city, it is an indispensable element in the Mediterranean gardens from its origins and we are going to give it a central place in these spaces," says the mayor.
