The 45 municipalities of the Region will have their own space in "Murcia Spanish Capital of Gastronomy" (10/01/2020)

This morning the headquarters of Murcia Spanish Capital of Gastronomy was inaugurated, located on the ground floor of the Romea Theater.

José Ballesta stressed "this is an opportunity to claim the pride and identity of belonging to this land" and added that "each of the municipalities of Murcia will participate in this celebration, with 45 exclusive gastronomic days."

In the office, operating 365 days a year, hundreds of events will be held, such as workshops, showcookings, ideas forums and culinary exhibitions of chefs of national and international prestige.

The MasterChef television program will visit the capital of the Region on January 27 and 28.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, the Minister of Tourism, Youth and Sports, María Cristina Sánchez, the Councilor for Economic Promotion and Tourism, Pedro García, and the president of the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy (CEG), Mariano Palacín, have inaugurated this morning the central office of Murcia Capital Gastronomic, on the ground floor of the Romea Theater, in an event that has had the presence of mayors of the different municipalities of the Region and members of the Spanish Federation of Tourism Journalists and Writers (FEPET ).

The 100-square-meter office will host hundreds of activities throughout 2020, such as workshops, showcookings, product shows, idea forums, social gatherings, artistic and cultural events related to gastronomy, cooking classes for the most Small and culinary exhibitions of chefs of recognized national and international prestige.

“Each of the mayors and mayors of the Region will participate in this celebration of Murcian cuisine, with which Murcia will host 45 gastronomic days dedicated exclusively to each municipality in the Region,†said José Ballesta, who added that “our I wish this event to be an open and participatory celebration in which we show Spain and the whole world what we are able to do in gastronomic matters when we work together for a common project, an opportunity to claim the pride and identity of belonging to this Earth".

Tradition and vanguard, two values ​​represented in the head office of the Gastronomic Capital

The central office of Murcia Gastronomic Capital combines tradition and avant-garde, “because this space has the colors of our land, with a dark green, which breathes the green of our mountain, a lighter and brighter green, mixed with yellow lemon, an allegory to the Murcian Huerta and, finally, crowning the space, on the roof, we find the color reddish earth â€, added José Ballesta.

In addition, the office has elements inspired by the decoration of Murcia's barracks, and with a bar area, in which gastronomic samples will be held.

It also presents very characteristic decorative elements, such as a cascade of cookbooks, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the world of cooking.

Whoever enters the headquarters will also find a Perigallo stool, designed by the international furniture company Sancal, based in Yecla, inspired by the 'perigallo' stairs used to work in the treetops.

Through the windows, a decoration that simulates citrus foam appears, looking outwards, an element in which flowers and fruits are mixed, which are decontextualized by the unity of the color they present, yellow, inviting the pedestrian to Wonder what's going on inside the office.

The image of the Murcia Capital Gastronomic mascot is also present in the decoration of the central office, whose final set shows great strength and transmits the messages and values ​​of the Murcia Gastronomic brand.

Journey to the origin of Murcian cuisine

During the inauguration, a tasting of three traditional Murcian stews was made;

of wheat with fennel, gurullos with rabbit and salted garum, “recovering three dishes that are heritage of regional cuisine.

The 4 stations, represented in gastronomic days

Capitality has been divided following the four seasons of the year, a gesture that affects the important relationship between climate and territory, seasonal production and food habits themselves.

The calendar of events, in which the specific products of each season will take center stage, will host hundreds of events throughout the year.

The first major event of this season, winter, will be on Sunday, January 26, at Romea Square, in which invited artists of international national prestige will participate.

In spring, between March 19 and 22;

and in autumn, at the end of September, a great gastronomic day will also be celebrated to celebrate the beginning of the season, respectively.

The product of proximity, vegan cuisine and new experiences associated with gastronomy are some of the ingredients that will not be missing.

March, the month of the Garden

In March, in addition, Murcia will celebrate the Week of the Garden, which will revolve around the products of the Murcian garden, organic production and the promotion of a more sustainable model of food consumption, in which local products and In season they will take on special prominence.

From Murcia to New York, London and Berlin

Murcia cuisine will travel to New York, London and Berlin as the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2020, because “an intense agenda will be developed, both inside and outside the municipality, whose epicenter will be the Romea Theater,†said José Ballesta.

Under the slogan 'La Huerta de los 1.001 Sabores', Murcian gastronomy will occupy a leading place in different national fairs, such as Madrid Fusión, which is held next week, Fitur or the Barcelona Food Fair, as well as in international fairs, such as the Summer Fancy Food in New York, the London Wine Fair, Fruit Logistics (in Berlin) and also the Tourism Fair of the German capital.

Open 365 days a year

The central office of Murcia Capital Gastronomic will open every day, from 10 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm.

The venue will host tastings, culinary demonstrations, 'showcookings', idea forums, cooking classes for children, activities, gatherings, product samples, etc., so opening days and hours may vary depending on the events hosted by the office.

During 2020, Murcia Spanish Capital of Gastronomy will also bet on the promotion of health in schools, by conducting programs and conferences related to nutrition.
