The new Senior Center will have a reading room, gym classroom, cafeteria with kitchen and dining room and multipurpose room, hairdresser, two offices and toilets.
The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the councilor of Pedanías y Barrios, Marco Antonio Fernández, visited the works of the new Espinardo Senior Center this morning, which will open its doors in April 2020 in the central Calle Mayor.
"Espinardo's elders will have next spring an own space of almost 500m2, a meeting point and socialization located in the heart of the neighborhood, which responds to a historical claim of the neighbors," said Mayor José Ballesta, who added that “this space joins the network of 76 social centers for the elderly, from which 32,000 people currently benefit from different districts and neighborhoods of the municipalityâ€.
It is a new space of 470m2 built, located in a room on the ground floor, thus guaranteeing universal accessibility and facilitating access for people with reduced mobility.
The new Senior Center will have a reading room, gym classroom, cafeteria with kitchen and dining room and multipurpose room, hairdresser, two administrative offices and toilets.
A space for living together and social activity
At this time in the municipality of Murcia people over 60 represent 20% of the total population, more than 90,000 people.
The Centers for the Elderly are spaces of coexistence, assistance and permanent activity, which are distributed throughout all neighborhoods and districts of the municipality, where different cultural and recreational programs and workshops are developed.
Investment Plan in Pedanías
The works, which began at the end of August and have an execution period of eight months, involve an investment of 256,000 euros and are part of the Investment Plan in Pedanías, which includes projects in ten other population centers: Cabezo de Torres , Corvera, Era Alta, Gea and Truyols, Guadalupe, Javalí Nuevo, Los Plan de Garres, Los Ramos, Santa Cruz and Zeneta.
