The University of Murcia presented on Monday the second GUESSS report (Global University Entrepreneurship Spirit Student's Survey), whose purpose is to make a diagnosis of the situation of Murcia university students before the entrepreneurial phenomenon and contribute to the knowledge of their career choice intentions.
According to the results of the report, the entrepreneurial intention of the UMU students is low at the end of the race, but increases considerably five years after finishing.
Specifically, women, five years after finishing their studies, are more enterprising than men, although entrepreneurship is their first professional option in the medium term.
In addition, it should be noted that the percentage of students intending to undertake when their parents are entrepreneurs (10.8%) is twice that shown by those whose parents are not (5.2%).
On the other hand, one in six students at the University of Murcia wants to be an official and one in five is seen working for the administration five years after finishing their university education.
This intention is greater in women than in men;
In fact, it is the first professional option for them in the medium term.
Another of the conclusions of the report is that the attitude and self-confidence of the students of the UMU are good, both variables being superior in the case of men.
It has also been found, among other things, that the level of influence of friends, colleagues and family is high in relation to the student's future decisions.
The results of this report may be of interest both to researchers in the field of entrepreneurship and to academic leaders, as well as to public and private institutions responsible for decision-making in the field of education and modernization of university infrastructure.
In Murcia, this study has been sponsored by the Social Council of the UMU and has been coordinated by Alicia Rubio, Vice Chancellor for Employment, Entrepreneurship and Society and Professor of the Department of Business and Financial Organization of the UMU;
and Catalina Nicolás, professor in the Department of Economic and Legal Sciences of the University Center of Defense General Air Academy.
