The first 100% accessible public office in the Region opens in Aguas de Murcia (16/12/2019)

This new space enabled in La Circular allows people with visual, auditory and physical disabilities to receive information about the services of the entity and to manage autonomously.

Universal accessibility is a priority for the City of Murcia in which we work from different fronts of action: mobility, road quality, leisure, children's games, access to the labor market, participation and attention to citizens.

José Ballesta: "Today we take a new step in an essential area such as citizen service, facilitating the personal autonomy of all Murcia, without distinction."

The office is a national reference in accessibility.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, presented this morning the Accessible Office of Aguas de Murcia (EMUASA), the first space of a 100% accessible public service in the Region, which allows people with visual, hearing and physical disabilities to receive information about the services of the entity and carry out the procedures requested.

The City of Murcia was awarded the 2018 Queen Letizia Prize as a reference city in Universal Accessibility for its transversal work in areas such as social, cultural, labor and mobility integration.

Universal accessibility is a priority for the City of Murcia in which we work from different fronts of action:

Mobility: the municipal public transport network - buses and trams - is accessible to people with visual disabilities, thanks to a new system of digital markers, which has just been implemented in the New York subway.

Road quality: the Alfonso X el Sabio promenade is the first avenue of the municipality 100% accessible;

the works of the Constitution Avenue also guarantee the mobility of people with reduced mobility and visual (the profile of the sidewalks has been lowered and strips of tactile pavement and danger button have been installed parallel to the curb and immediately before it), as well as the creation of a network of itineraries fully accessible by the city, including gardens and parks.

Leisure: the Circus Theater is the first in Spain that implemented the intelligent accessibility system through the mobile;

Accessible children's leisure with the installation of adapted children's games in the public parks of the municipality.

Participation: installation of the magnetic loop system in the Plenary Hall.

Access to the labor market: The City Council promotes job training and training of people with disabilities through supervised workshops, such as the cultivation of plants in municipal nurseries, and has opened job vacancies for people with disabilities.

“Today we take a new step in an essential area such as citizen service, facilitating the personal autonomy of all Murcia, without distinction, thanks to this new office that is already a national reference in accessibility and one of the first in Spain in incorporate state-of-the-art technology systems in the same public space, at the service of people with any type of disability, â€said José Ballesta.

Since 2018, EMUASA holds meetings with entities such as the Federation of Deaf People of the Region of Murcia (FESORMU) and ONCE, working together to achieve the goal that has materialized today.

And is that "improving the quality of life and autonomy of people with disabilities is a priority for the municipal government," said the mayor of Murcia.

The event was attended by the legal representative of Aguas de Murcia, Rafael Gómez, the president of the Federation of Deaf People of the Region of Murcia, Francisco José Pérez (FESORMU), the coordinator of FESORMU, María del Mar Cárceles, coordinator of FESORMU, and the Head of the Game of the Territorial Delegation of the ONCE, Pedro Salinas.

On behalf of the Municipal Corporation attended by the Councilor for Sustainable Development and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, and the Councilor for Seniors, Disability and Cooperation, Paqui Pérez.

In addition to rehabilitating this office, located in the Circular Plaza, the corresponding training has been given to the Customer Service staff.

A video and interpretation system in sign language for people with hearing impairment

The latest news implemented in this office is the SVisual video and interpretation system, which allows people with hearing disabilities to contact the entity and make their respective arrangements, in person or by phone, through the website www.emuasa .is.

In person, when the user arrives at the office and goes to the information desk, where he will require attention in sign language, he will be able to use this new system.

For this, a new table has been enabled, from where it connects with the Interpretation service when the user requests it from the Customer Service staff.

This table stand presents a screen, in which the sign language interpreter appears.

In this way, the user can manage with the corresponding administrator, through the interpreter that will appear on the screen.

Likewise, people with hearing impairment can carry out their efforts through the Aguas de Murcia website, from a device with a screen that allows reproducing interpretations in sign language.

The user has to go to the phone 900 700 808 and request that he wishes to be attended by a professional of this service.

At that time, the interpreter appears on the device screen, providing you with the information you need.

The first 100% accessible public office in the Region

Aguas de Murcia is adapting all its information to auditory messages and sign language videos, this being the first time that a public service company in the Region incorporates this technology to improve the quality of life and autonomy of people with disabilities, integrating the latest systems into its services.

In 2020, this municipal company will begin the second phase of implementing this system, so that it is also available through the mobile application of EMUASA.

Measures implemented in 2019 to achieve universal accessibility

During 2019, Aguas de Murcia has carried out a series of measures to improve universal accessibility, such as the implementation of Beepcons, a mobile application for people with visual disabilities, which consists of a guidance system.

The application tells users where in the office they are at each moment and where each service is located, such as the information desk or the waiting room.

In addition, the office has a tactile floor, a textured surface for pedestrians with visual impairment, and inside it is equipped with a magnetic loop system, which improves communication with people who use a hearing aid, since it allows isolation Ambient sound

It has also made the printing of telephone contact cards and cards with information on their website in Braille, as well as videos to present their adapted services.
