The Department of Employment, Economic Promotion and Tourism led by the mayor Pedro García Rex has developed, for the first time, a special program for Christmas that includes guided tours of Murcia, a workshop and children's gymkana and a tasting of typical Christmas sweets.
Visits to the historic center: December 20 and January 3
The scheduled activities, which will be free, will begin on Friday, December 20, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a guided tour of the historic center of Murcia that will begin in the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga to learn about the history of the Episcopal Palace, the building attached to the Murcia City Council, designed by the architect Rafael Moneo, and the Real Casino de Murcia, to end with a tasting of Christmas sweets made by the Sisters of the San Antonio Convent.
This visit will also take place on January 3 at the same time, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The meeting point, where visitors will have to be 10 minutes before, is the Tourist Office of the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga.
Gymkana: December 21 and January 4
On December 21 and January 4 a gymkana for children and young people is scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., near the door of the Tourist Office of the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga
Visit La Muralla Visitor Center: December 21
On Saturday, December 21, at 11:30 a.m., the guided visit, especially Christmas, will take place at the Visitor Center of La Muralla, under the name 'The winter holidays in the old Kingdom of Murcia ".
This visit, which will be carried out by the technician of the Visitor Center of the Wall, will show visitors the history of the Wall of Santa Eulalia, with special emphasis on the neighborhoods and spaces of the garden, where popular music, traditional sweets and Christmas festive rituals acquired great prominence.
The city and the garden of Murcia lived the Christmas holidays in a very intense way.
Therefore, during this visit it will be explained how they celebrated Christmas from the 15th and 16th centuries until the 20th century: gang music, songs of Aguilanos, typical gastronomy, innocent rituals or representations of sacramental cars, make up a joyful cycle, in which San Antón, La Candelaria and San Blas announced the emergence of another.
Visits to the nativity scenes: December 23 and 30
On December 23, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
and on December 30, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., visits to the nativity scenes of the Episcopal Palace, that of Peña la Pava, in the Church of San Juan de Dios, and that of the Palace of San Esteban are scheduled.
The meeting point is the door of the Tourist Office of Plaza Cardenal Belluga, 10 minutes before the start of the visit.
Theatrical visits: December 26 and 30
For its part, the dramatized visits will be on Thursday, December 26 and Sunday, January 5, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The meeting point will be in the Plaza de las Agustinas, in front of the City Museum, 10 minutes before the start of the visit.
In these theatrical visits, a qualified tour guide, characterized as Jusepe or Rebeca, two orchard characters from the traditional Auto de Reyes Magos, will take the tour, which begins in the Plaza de las Agustinas to continue towards the Powder Garden, where the system of irrigation and ditches of the garden will be explained.
Then, they will go to the Hermitage Pasos de Santiago and the House of the 9 floors to continue along the Gran Vía in the direction of the Paseo Alfonso X El Sabio, where they will tell the story of the Convent of Santa Clara.
From there you will continue along Trapería Street, stopping at the Real Casino, to end with a visit to the Murcia Cathedral.
Children's workshop: January 2
The children's workshop 'Caring for health in Murcia Medieval', for children between 8 and 14 years, will take place on January 2, at 11: 00, in the Visitor Center of La Muralla.
Two monitors specialized in heritage education, characterized as a doctor and a healer from the Middle Ages, will explain what life was like at that time.
The little ones will come into contact with noble materials and make different products of the time such as: cinnamon incense, a candle made of natural beeswax, a candle holder in the form of a small lamp, puzzles with ceramic shapes.
There will also be a demonstration of work of esparto and blowing horns and conch shells.
The mayor of Employment, Economic Promotion and Tourism, Pedro García Rex, said that "with this special Christmas program we want to make known, not only the tourists who visit us during these days but also the Murcia, history and the rich Murcia heritage. "

For all activities, except for those carried out at the Visitor Center of the Wall, reservations will be made on the phone 681 27 78 43 from 17 to 20 hours from Monday to Sunday.
In the case of reservations for the guided tour and the children's workshop at the La Muralla Visitor Center, located in the Plaza de Santa Eulalia, they will be made on the center's telephone: 968 22 16 12, from 10:00 to 14: 00h, and 17:00 to 20: 00h, from Tuesday to Friday.
