More than 300 creators and artists receive Christmas with the first cultural marathon of this completely renovated 5,400m2 space, located in the heart of the Carmen neighborhood.
This avant-garde artistic center welcomes this afternoon the opening of the exhibition of the I Route of Creativity, the opening of the Christmas Salons, the lighting of the star 'Octantis' and a jam session of open swing.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Culture and Heritage Recovery, Jesús Pacheco, reported today the opening of the Artillery Barracks, a center for artistic production and exhibition space that will open its doors this afternoon, returning to the Murcia a space of 5,400 m2 for culture.
To celebrate, the City Council has organized the first Christmas cultural marathon, which is being held throughout the day, and which has as its epicenter the Artillery Barracks;
a 12-hour day of uninterrupted creation in which more than 300 artists from Murcia and from other communities participate.
“This festival of culture is composed of the 'I Route of Creativity', with live painting in six Murcia squares, whose works will be exhibited in the first exhibition of the new Artillery Barracks, which we inaugurated this afternoon.
There we will also reveal the 'Christmas Salons', a series of artistic interventions that evoke Christmas sensations, through original contemporary techniques, ”said José Ballesta.
"At 7:00 p.m. the internationally awarded light and sound show, 'Octantis', will be held, whereby the iconic water tank of the Artillery Barracks will become the Christmas Star of the South neighborhoods," the mayor said. , who added that "this creative marathon will close with a swing jam session, with live music and dance in the Plaza del Cuartel."
The City Council invites Murcia to know this artistic center
These events are part of the special Christmas program of the Artillery Barracks, with which the City Council invites all Murcia to this new cultural center of reference of more than 5,400 square meters, which opens its doors as an artistic production space, favoring the meeting, learning and dialogue between creators from Murcia and around the world.
Starting in January, the Barracks will start its annual cultural program and offer 75 artistic residences, in which more than a hundred creators can participate annually.
"This new cultural symbol of Murcia, with open and participatory spaces for the creation and promotion of Murcian talent, is a space with permanent activity through which more than 5,000 people will pass through 2020," said the councilor.
Route of creativity: inaugural exhibition of the Barracks

The different multidisciplinary groups have received 1,500 euros to create in the different rooms of the barracks Christmas stays where the Christmas tree will be the protagonist, and whose creation process has been open, so that the public has been able to follow the evolution of the interventions .

One of the most spectacular moments of the afternoon will arrive at 7:00 pm with the inauguration of 'Octantis', the Star of the South'.
This star that indicates the south will illuminate the entire space of the Barracks during this Christmas, filling the iconic water tank with lights and sound.
This initiative is developed by the young Pinball architecture studio, which in September of this year received the Audience Award in the latest edition of the 72 Hour Urban Action in Lobeda (Germany), the first real-time architecture competition in which international teams They design, build and live together for three days.
Among other merits in the Creative Lighting discipline, in 2018 they designed and built one of the most acclaimed installations of the Bright Brussels Lighting Festival in Brussels.
The swing will star in the end of this cultural marathon party, with a jam session with Paula Marengo and the Orbis Tertius Trio trio, by Tejemaneje, with a live concert and dance.
