The traditional Council of Good Men of Murcia, whose origins date back to the Middle Ages, celebrates the 10th anniversary of its inclusion as Intangible Heritage by UNESCO next to the Court of the Waters of the Garden of Valencia.
On that occasion, the conference "The Council of Good Men of Murcia. The survival of traditional irrigation" is celebrated on Thursday, October 12.
It will be in the Chamber of the Faculty of Letters of the Campus de la Merced from 9 in the morning, at which time it will be inaugurated by the Mayor of Murcia José Ballesta;
Miguel Alfonso Pascual de Riquelme, President of the Superior Court of Justice of Murcia;
Fco. Javier Martínez Méndez, Vice Chancellor for Quality, Culture and Communication of the UMU;
Diego Frutos Saura, president of the Board of Landowners and the Council of Good Men of the Huerta de Murcia and Rosa María Hervás Avilés, professor at the University of Murcia and coordinator of the day.
At half past 9 a round table will be held on the international dimension of this court in which representatives of the Council of Good Men of the garden of Murcia, the Court of the Waters of the Garden of Valencia and Judges of the Water of Corongo ( Peru).
Professors of the University of Murcia, technicians and representatives of the Central Board of Irrigators, of the Board of Landowners of the garden of Murcia and of the Private Court of Waters of Orihuela will take part in presentations as past, present and future of an ancient institution or about the current situation of traditional irrigation in the Segura Basin.
