Puente Tocinos hosts this weekend, from December 29 to 1, the Spanish Petanque Championship for people with intellectual disabilities.

The Councilor for Sports and Health, Felipe Coello, and the Councilor for Seniors, Disability and Development Cooperation, Paqui Pérez, along with the Director General of Sports, Fran Sánchez, and the president of FEDEMIPS, José Zomeño, presented this tournament this morning which will have a total of 109 participants.

The championship will house three categories: a competition for triples, a modality adapted for doubles and another for sports skills that will be held individually.

Felipe Coello stressed that "from the City Council we support this type of initiatives because we believe in sports without limitations. All participants show that their effort and improvement is above any disability, so they are an example for everyone."

A total of 17 clubs from different Spanish locations will participate in this tournament, such as Andalusia, Asturias, Castilla la Mancha, Casilla and León, Madrid and Valencia, and will be supervised by 29 technicians.

For its part, the mayor of the Elderly, Disability and Development Cooperation has valued the importance of this type of activities that “we will continue to support and encourage, as well as the practice of other sports to enhance the inclusive participation of people with disabilities in physical and sports activity. "

The championship, organized by the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Disabilities (FEDDI) and FEDEMIPS Region of Murcia, will be closed on Saturday during an event held at the Hotel Azarbe.

The activity is held at the Petanque Club of Puente Tocinos and has the collaboration of the City of Murcia, through the Department of Sports and Health, the Directorate General of Sports of the CARM, the Higher Sports Council, the ONCE Foundation , La Ligasports, ASISA, Spanish Paralympic Committee, Toyota, Paralympics and the Petanque Federation of the Region of Murcia.
