More than 100 Fundown Murcia users are trained in new technologies to access the labor market (21/11/2019)

El Moneo hosts the presentation of the VI edition of the 'Yo me Prep @ ro' program, funded by the Vofadone Spain Foundation.

The objective of this project is to provide people with intellectual disabilities with the necessary tools to facilitate their access to employment and achieve their personal autonomy.

The City of Murcia collaborates with Fundown developing different initiatives, such as professional training programs, inclusive leisure and shared housing.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Disability and Development Cooperation, Paqui Pérez, attended this morning the presentation of the VI edition of 'I Prep @ ro' in the auditorium of the Moneo, a program driven by Fundown whose objective is to provide people with intellectual disabilities with the tools and strategies necessary to facilitate their access to employment, through the different technological services implemented in society, thus achieving their personal autonomy.

"Since this program was launched in 2014, more than 1,300 users have acquired the necessary skills throughout Spain to be able to perform a job effectively, of which more than 100 were Murcia," said the mayor of Murcia , who added that "thanks to initiatives like this, Fundown users demonstrate their professional worth."

During the event one of the students of the program intervened, who shared her experience with the public, and a video was projected on one of the work sessions.

The program, funded by the Vofadone Spain Foundation, is broken down into two courses;

one of initiation, aimed at users who do not have previous knowledge about new technologies, and another of professionalization, aimed at those who do have basic notions.

Fundown, 25 years at the service of Murcian society

Fundown, which was established in 1994, is one of the non-profit entities with the greatest regional and national prestige in attention and promotion of personal autonomy of people with intellectual disabilities and / or Down Syndrome.

Use the PC and access the banking networks

'Yo Prep @ ro' offers learning that enhances creative, expressive and artistic ability;

facilitates access to different technological services;

It favors the responsible use of information and communication technologies, and enables communication with other people.

Using the computer, accessing computerized banking networks, communicating through mobile or landline telephony and making inquiries in public bodies are some of the technological resources provided to users, in order to achieve full integration of people adolescents and adults with Down syndrome in society.

Also, during the presentation, diplomas were delivered to 14 students who participated in the previous edition.

In this sixth edition, 16 students are participating in Murcia, and a total of 88 users throughout Spain.

The event was attended by the director of the 'Yo me Prep @ ro' program of Down Spain, Pedro Martínez, who also serves as manager of Fundown and president of the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (CERMI), and the president of Fundown, Diego Gonzalez

Professional training, inclusive leisure and shared housing

The City of Murcia collaborates with Fundown promoting different programs.

One of them is that of professional training that is carried out in the Municipal Nursery of Mayayo, where users of Fundown and CEOM are responsible for the different crops that are subsequently planted in the municipal gardens, thus acquiring specialized professional training.

The City Council created a waiting list for temporary employment of the category Gardening Pawn for people with disabilities.

Another is the 'Inclusive Leisure for People with Intellectual Disability' program, in which more than 50 users are currently participating.

This initiative is carried out so that people with intellectual disabilities acquire knowledge and skills, with the aim of enjoying leisure autonomously.

Likewise, the Consistory, in collaboration with Fundown, carries out the initiative 'School of Life: Shared Housing Program', which has more than 30 participants.

UMU volunteers, who live with people with intellectual disabilities, play an important role in this project, which means mutual learning.
