Councilwoman Esther believes that it should include measures that control traffic to allow children and adolescents to acquire greater autonomy, develop intergenerational and other spaces to enjoy attractive areas where they spend time
The municipality of Murcia is characterized, among many other aspects, in having a young population, more than the national average.
Specifically, about 20% of the total population are children and adolescents, a sufficiently large percentage that justifies a Childhood Plan, expected for years, with measures that allow urban planning and services to be adapted to the youngest.
For the socialist councilor Esther Nevado, when preparing the Childhood Plan, the historical and daily obstacles that children and adolescents encounter are not taken into account, therefore, "it is not a real and effective tool for turn the municipality of Murcia into a less hostile place since this Plan is not innovative or contemplates successful experiences of other cities that do act as childhood friends. "
"Children spend heat in classrooms, much more than any of us would endure in their work; municipal libraries do not have children's spaces that invite children to read; traffic speed and shortage of pedestrian streets limits freedom of movement and autonomy, their right to play and meet their friends is not respected and there are hardly any outdoor tracks where children can play sports, "explains the councilor.
Nevado recalls that in 2016 Murcia assumed before UNICEF the commitment to become a childhood-friendly city, a recognition that would help local governments to incorporate childhood and adolescence at the center of the political and social agenda.
However, "it has presented a Childhood Plan that does not take advantage of the unique opportunity to introduce the children's perspective in municipal planning, which is what it was about."
For this reason, he points out that from the Socialist Group it is proposed to control traffic to allow children and adolescents to acquire greater autonomy, create intergenerational spaces in which children, adolescents and people of all ages can develop and naturalize urban spaces and in districts to create attractive areas in which to spend time.
Similarly, the councilor explains that "the Childhood Plan, endowed with 102 million for four years, allocates expenses such as the maintenance of social housing or social bonds of the water company, understanding that it benefits children; of course it benefits, indirectly all expenses benefit them, so let's include the entire municipal budget, why not, put them to inflate ... "
He adds that "in addition to inflating, this Plan tries to deceive us, as usual, because it also includes the total of the services budget such as that of the Bicycle Office and the subsidies corresponding to Development Cooperation. We understand that a part will reverse in the children, but in no case the whole budget. "
