José Ballesta has signed the contract with the European Commission for the implementation of this innovative public electric bicycle system, together with the cities of Barcelona, ​​Florence, Berlin, Rome, Budapest and Turku.
The mayor will visit the Smart City Expo Word tomorrow, where he will tour the various international sustainable mobility stands, within his commitment to individual electric vehicles, which will arrive in Murcia neighborhoods and districts in the coming months.
The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, reported today that “within the European call for 'Intelligent, sustainable and integrated transport' Murcia has been selected as a pilot city for the implementation of electric bicycles and charging points that will arrive for the first time in the municipality, thanks to an investment of 350,000 euros financed entirely by the European Union.
The mayor communicated the news after the signing of the contract with the European Commission of this international project in which Murcia has been chosen for the implementation of this innovative public system of user-centered electric bicycles, together with the cities of Barcelona, ​​Florence, Berlin, Rome, Budapest and Turku, within the 'Urban mobility and sustainable electrification of large urban areas' European section.
Tomorrow Tuesday, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, and the Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, will visit the Smart City Expo Word, where they will tour the different international electric mobility stands , within the commitment to the avant-garde and innovation that will allow the implementation of different electric devices with individual mobility in Murcia neighborhoods and districts, over the coming months.
This action represents a new step within the new model of metropolitan transport and sustainable mobility of the City of Murcia Strategy 2030, which proposes mobility as a motor development project, social cohesion and territorial vertebration, articulating a public mobility system to face the challenges of the future.
In the case of Murcia, this system will include the installation of recharging points by means of electricity supplied by a photovoltaic pergola for electric bikes, where in addition, batteries for energy storage and intelligent control will be available to balance the system using also conventional electrical supply .
Murcia joins the Mediterranean corridor of electric mobility
The European project in which Murcia participates has as one of its priority objectives to optimize and develop innovative electric recharge systems, simple to use and understand, to encourage its use among neighbors and that they feel more attracted to electric mobility.
A framework of operation and operation will be deployed that enhances the total interoperability of the recharge equipment, in which two Corridors have been established: the Mediterranean, in which Murcia is integrated with Budapest, Florence and Barcelona;
and the Scandinavian, composed of Turku, Berlin, Florence and Rome.
