Thousands of people passed yesterday through Alfonso X El Sabio Avenue on its first day open to the public as a totally pedestrian promenade.
Murcians and visitors enjoyed the different activities and shows prepared for the occasion.
More than 500 dancers, from the Murcia Dance Center and Víctor Campos academies, filled this artery of the heart of Murcia with rhythm and color.
It is the most important pedestrian itinerary in the municipality, with 14,400 m2, which runs along the monumental axis that connects the river and La Glorieta, with Belluga, Trapería and Santo Domingo Square to La Circular.
Eight Murcia music groups were responsible for brightening the day.
Thus, the party began at 12.30 pm with the classic rock concert of Austin Slack, next to the Church of Las Claras.
The freshness and energy of the Murcian Funicular group continued to fill the avenue with a concert that began around 1:00 pm, along with Pérez Casas.
"We wanted this boulevard, located in the heart of the city, to have a 100% Murcian flavor and for this we have had the talent of artists from our land," says the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez.
Thus, the party continued in the afternoon with the performance of different bands in order to offer different musical styles.
From 5:00 p.m., it was Pleyel's turn, Antonio Serrano also had the opportunity, Malacotton surprised entertaining the afternoon with a varied recital and the singer-songwriter Rosario Cámara.
Creamurcia also semifinalist Jorge Bayle was present yesterday at this inauguration and, finally, Laura Uve performed, closing the concerts on stage with Las Claras.
Finally the party ended with a light show all along the Avenue.
"Thus we culminate the works of a space through which hundreds of Murcia travel every day and that is a social and family meeting point, clean and healthy," says Rebeca Pérez.
The actions of the project
The pedestrianization of Alfonso X has been carried out in two stages: Phase I, from Santo Domingo to Jaime I (with an area of ​​7,600 m2) and a budget of 1.8 million euros, whose works began in February 2018 and concluded in October of the same year;
and Phase II (6,800 m2 8,217), from there to La Circular, with a budget of 2 million euros, whose work started last March.
This work, promoted by the Department of Youth and Sustainable Mobility, has been co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union, funds that the City of Murcia obtained thanks to its Strategy of City Murcia 2020.
In total, 72 orange trees and 11 palm trees, 119 planters have been planted along the avenue, 36 benches, 31 bins, 139 lights and 2 sets of 6 underground containers have been installed.
