The Socialist Municipal Group has accessed the bill for the distribution of meat pies during the last Spring Festival, in April of this year, and has verified that these were frozen products that were not prepared by the students of the Training and Initiatives Center of Employment of El Palmar, where Hospitality courses are held, as Councilman Pacheco reported.
Councilor Enrique Lorca states that, after the information obtained, he regrets that "these students, who will be future cooks and pastry chefs, will be awarded, making cakes that were so criticized because some were raw and that raised blisters between the guild" .
"What should be an act of homage to one of our star gastronomic products has become a cast in a huge queue without any foundation and this saddens us because it should be a massive party that transcends our borders and has an effect called as they have currently popular programs in different parts of Spain around their typical products from wines, cheeses, octopus or even beans, "says Lorca.
In addition, "we know that this is not what organizations that represent Murcia's pastry chefs want, since if the ultimate goal is to make the meat pie known, offering them frozen is not the best promotion."
The mayor believes that "a more complete and attractive program should be launched that moves away from the image of a long queue of people waiting for them to give them a meatloaf, which only serves for the mayor and his councilor to become a couple of pictures".
In this regard, he talks about recovering the organization of Meat Pie Day by the pastry guild with the help of students from the Hospitality School of El Palmar, conducting workshops aimed at children and even organizing activities in schools from the municipality of Murcia to show the traditional Murcian pastry making.
"There are still many months left until the Spring Festival is celebrated and we believe that we should start thinking about a more ambitious program that gives our bakery the prominence it deserves, especially because it has the necessary quality, approval and recognition for it ", concludes the councilman.
